AUBURN, Maine — Police say two people have died in a fiery early morning car crash in Auburn.
Emergency personnel responded to the crash on Merrow Road just after 1 a.m. Tuesday to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames in the middle of the street.
Police think the vehicle left the road, struck a tree and rolled several times before coming to rest back in the roadway.
Both victims were still in the vehicle when authorities arrived at the scene.
Investigators are working to identify them.
The preliminary investigation indicates that speed may have been a factor.

More deaths on Maine’s highways. So sad. People SLOW DOWN! June and July have been deadly months,it’s time to reverse the trends.
Well said. There is no place you need to be that badly. Slow down and live.
Or..GET OFF THE PHONE!!!! I see that everyday….
Is it me, or have there been more bad wrecks statewide this summer than usual? Seems like almost every day there’s a new one. Sad.
Seems like it,dosent it?
anyone know how long it’ll take them to update this with the names of the victims?
When they figure out who the burned bodies are they will identify the families. Quite simple.
Seatbelts save lives
Logan and Steven, They are waiting for DNA to come back. Yes Family and Friends know who they are. It is a curved hill that goes down to the left. I live at the bottom and seen many accidents happen when not doing the speed limit of 30. Their was deer out that night in the road also.
