OLD TOWN, Maine — A fire on Main Street hindered traffic downtown on Tuesday night but firefighters were able to get it under control quickly.
Firefighters were dispatched to the building that holds Gossamer Press and several other businesses around 8:30 p.m., according to Old Town Fire Chief Steve O’Malley.
The portion of the building that houses Gossamer Press was damaged by heat and smoke.
“There’s quite a bit of damage in that one section,” said O’Malley. “I can’t estimate the dollar value.”
O’Malley said firefighters had things under control in a half hour, which kept the fire from spreading to other businesses in the building, including an adult day care.
The chief said the fire started in an abandoned couch in the rear of the building and that flames were coming out of the roof when firefighters arrived.
Nobody was in the building at the time of the fire and no firefighters were injured.
Crews from Orono and Milford assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation and Old Town officials brought in the state fire marshal’s office to aid in determining a cause.
All I can say is….BDN were you asleep last night? This “news” is almost 24 hours old and was covered on Channel 2 (really Channel 6) this morning at 6:30! You had no problem getting the info up on a Portland shooting this morning but news that is 10-15 miles north???? No let’s delay that report for 22 hours! Maine’s “Largest Daily” is slowly slipping from slightly relevant to totally irrelevant if you cannot report news in a timely manner.

Well, I heard an uneducated sounding Woman try and blame it on fireworks at the scene last night. Tired of hearing people play the “fireworks card”.
