ALEXANDER – Everett Lawrence Bates, 80, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. Everett was born March 9, 1932, in Chicago, son of the late Roger and Tillie (Wiemert) Bates.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving with the 4060th Food Service Squadron at Dow Air Force Base, Bangor. While stationed in Bangor, he met his love, Rowena White, and they married and moved to Chicago for a few years until returning to Maine. Everett worked for Carlton Davis Sawmill, Cooper and in the woods until beginning his career with Georgia Pacific. Upon retiring from G.P., he continued working as a security guard until he had to fully retire due to his health. Everett was a longtime member of St. Croix Golf Club and enjoyed bowling.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Rowena Bates; and two brothers, Roland and Bill Bates. Surviving are his two stepchildren, Vivian Perkins and husband, Carl, and Tom Dwelley and wife, Marilyn, all of Alexander; five stepgrandchildren, eight great-stepgrandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Calvin White and wife, Dorothy, of Alexander, and Charles White and wife, Marguerite, of Crawford; sister-in-law, Viola Dwelley of Alexander; many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, at Alexander Cemetery. Donations in Everett’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at
