TURNER, Maine — Police say a woman died at the scene of a crash on Route 4 near the former Chick-A-Dee Restaurant about 3 p.m. Friday.
Susan Fortier, 46, of Minot, was the sole occupant of a Buick sedan that was pulling onto Route 4, turning left to travel south from Conant Road. Her car was hit broadside by a Toyota pickup driven by Daniel Chabot, whose leg was injured. He was treated at the scene.
Chabot was passing a northbound tractor-trailer as it slowed to turn. When the truck turned right into Conant Road, it apparently blinded the woman and Chabot from each other, police said.
Traffic was narrowed to one lane in each direction. Maine State Police conducted an accident reconstruction.

Condolences to Ms Fortier’s family and friends. Speedy recovery Mr. Chabot. This was a horrible crash.
Will Chabot be cited?
Why would you ask that question? The driver of the truck was not to blame for the unfortunate accident.
It’s against the law to pass at an intersection. You wouldn’t expect it and you can’t see it with a truck blocking the complete view. My condolences to the Fortier family.
The accident did not occur at an intersection.
Legally that is true, but in reality there is no difference between a driveway and an intersection. If the driver of the pickup was driving “defensively” his truck would not have killed that woman, who made a stupid decision to pull out into traffic that cost her life. Amazing isn’t it. A million people die every year in automobile crashes worldwide
Have you ever driven that stretch of Rt. 4? Traffic headed towards Auburn has 2 lanes. Don’t place blame on an a man who was not in the wrong.
She was killed by the other vehicle, literally. What is wrong with you people? There are no accidents on the road, they are called crashes
I’m not blaming the driver of the pickup for her death, you don’t pull out into traffic unless you are %100 certain that you will not be killed by doing so, but the driver of the pickup was reckless if this story is true and he was passing a turning truck. SLOW DOWN EVERYONE
He was in the left lane it’s a two lane stretch of road meaning the pickup was in the left lane and the truck was in the right lane so how was the driver of the pickup reckless?
When someone is killed and it’s not on purpose..it’s an accident…maybe he was reckless, but I’m sure he’s gonna feel guilty about it…he doesn’t need to be bashed online
The driver of the truck did not kill the woman…..the woman was killed in an ACCIDENT…don’t blame someone for something as tragic as this…especially since you are basing all of your observations on a short 4 paragraph article with very little information!
The article says Ms. Fortier was turning left off Conant Rd. onto Rt.4. The tractor trailor was turning into Conant Rd. , which would block her view,& Mr. Chabot passed the truck illegally rather than slow down behind the truck until it completed the turn. This WOULD be an intersection as common_since mentioned. It seems like both drivers used poor judgement, but it’s a shame it resulted in a life lost.
He didn’t pass illegally. That is a 2 lane road there.
Pulling out in front of someone she didn’t see, which was a bad accident. Most of us have done it and lived to tell about it. Leave earlier, so that you’re not in a hurry. Make sure it is safe to complete your manuver. And drive the speed limit, going faster you may not avoid that deer, or worse a person.
What a terrible tragedy. Sue was one of the kindest people I have ever known.
