LEBANON, Maine — A 2-year-old girl is being treated for serious burns at a Boston hospital after falling into a fire pit at a resort cabin.
Officials tell WMUR-TV the child was playing outside with family members at the Flat Rock Bridge Family Resort on Sunday morning when she apparently fell backward into a fire pit containing hot coals. The fire had been put out Saturday night but some coals still were smoldering.
The toddler is from Milton, N.H.
The state fire marshal’s office is investigating.

Boy, I really hate hitting people when they are already down but I have to say I agree with you here. I know accidents happen and it only takes a second to lose sight of a toddler but goodness, I would have kept her far away or held her ….For those exact reasons.
Best wishes to the little one on a full recovery and to mom and dad as well.
I have been in public situations where I have been much more nervous about somebody’s kids than the parents are.
Seems a lot of people don’t like to read the truth.
Someone needs to learn how to put out a fire correctly. Not that the kid should have been playing near a fire pit anyway.
Plenty of Monday-Morning-Quarterbacks in the comments section…
Is it hard work being so perfect?
They may be trying to hide their own shortcomings by criticizing others. Low self-esteem issues.
Pretty sad and disgusting that they choose to use an accident where a toddler is hurt to hop up on their soapbox.
What if a person runs a red light and kills a family?…..hey, just an accident. We should let the driver go. I mean, accidents just happen, right?
It sounds like your attitude is “accidents happen.” I agree, “accidents happen,” however when somebody is hurt, even if it was an accident, there may still be consequences other than “oh well, accidents happen” and if people don’t just accept that then they are somehow just being mean.
Wishing this baby girl a complete and speedy recovery!!!!
It can, but doesn’t have to happen. A 4 tear old fell into a campfire at a KOA in Middleboro, Ma. yesterday. Second degree burn on her face, neck, arms, 1 leg. Didn’t have to happen. :(
Poor little darling. Hoping she makes a full recovery real soon and that mom and dad can hang tough. So sad. My kids enjoyed camp fires every night during the summers when they were little. Parents spending quality time with their little ones is precious and it has to be so hard on them to have something like this happen.
Talk is cheap. So many people are quick to judge. It makes me sick.
how does a 2 year old falling into hot coals make you feel?
Is this a trick question? It makes me feel very sad. Does it mean I want to bash the parents ? No. If you think bashing the parents makes you a better person then fine. I won’t argue with you because it’s not worth my time.
Memo to Flat Rock Bridge Family Resort: Notify your insurance carrier.
It is sad that we as humans cannot always foresee the possible injuries that can occur so easily.
Yeah….2 year old, hot coals, what could go wrong?
hope she makes a full recovery. I hear that if you get a burn to throw flour on it, I guess it instantly cools the burn and if its not a real bad burn, the flour will help with it not scarring.
Probably just an old wive’s tale:

If they had thrown flour on this little girl, she may have actually been worse off..
It must be nice to be most of you that are so quick to pass judgement on others. If you all read the article, the fire was put out Saturday night but some coals were still hot. This is just an accident. have any of you ever been out camping with young children before? All you have to do is turn your back for a second and something like this happens. This does not mean that they are bad parents! You all should be ashamed of yourselves to be jumping to conculsions. I wish I was as perfect as you all seem to think you are. And yes, in this case it was “just an accident”.
Heck, you can be looking right at them and then they dart and you have all you can do to catch them.
So true, TrueNative!
