DEXTER – Douglas Alan Vigue, 63, went to be with our Lord July 14, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Togus. He was born Sept. 15, 1948, in Dexter, son of Elinor Jeannette (Thompson) Vigue and Roger Floyd Vigue of Dexter.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and uncle. Doug graduated from Dexter High School, Dexter, in 1966. Shortly after graduating, he served in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Vietnam era as a Navy Reserve medic and then went to work for Dexter Shoe Co., where he retired after more than 30 years. Doug was a faithful Christian and member and trustee of New Hope Baptist Church of Dexter. He loved to help others and in recent years took great pride in overseeing Dexter Food Pantry. He also loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing and boating with his best friend Pastor Will Walters; but most of all he loved spending time with his dog and “special” friend, Rio.

Doug was the beloved husband of Donna J. Vigue for 29 years. He was a wonderful father to his three children, Stephanie (Vigue) Clark and husband, James, of South China, Stacey (Vigue) Haskell and husband, Matt, of Hampden and Eric Vigue of Winslow; and stepchildren, Steven Pratt Jr. of Collegeville, Pa., and Mandi Pratt Chapman of Alexandria, Va. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, Aiden Clark, Emma Haskell and Gracyn Haskell; and stepgrandchildren, Marissa and Noah Pratt, and Marie and Iris Chapman. Doug is survived by his brother and wife, Gregory and Boon Vigue of Jacksonville, Ala., and their three daughters, Debbie and Susan Vigue and Suporn Sawatpong. He was predeceased by his brother, Dennis; and by his parents.

A celebration of Doug’s life will occur at a graveside memorial service to be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, with Pastor Will Walters officiating. Those who wish to remember Doug in a special way are encouraged to send donations, in lieu of flowers, in Doug’s memory to New Hope Baptist Church, Dexter Food Closet, 130 Spring St., Dexter, ME 04930.
