BANGOR – Constance Ruth Strout, 77, died July 15, 2012, at her home at Winterberry Heights, Bangor. She was born Oct. 2, 1934, in Milbridge, daughter of Arnold Foster and Barbara I. (Kelley) Strout.
Connie was a graduate of Milbridge High School, class of 1952 and a 1954 graduate of Westbrook College. She loved music and in her younger years was a piano teacher. Connie was employed for 48 years by the City of Bangor, the last 37 years as the administrative assistant to the airport manager, retiring Feb. 28, 2005. She was once identified by the Bangor Daily News as the “Real Airport Manager.” Gov. Baldacci proclaimed Feb. 23, 2005, to be “Connie Strout Day.” Connie served on the board of directors of the Alumni Association of Westbrook College and received the Heloise Withee Award in 2002 for outstanding service to the board of directors.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas R. Wood of Bangor; four cousins, Susan Jane (Strout) Parker, Joyce (Beal) Bailey, Jimmy Beal and Bonnie Beck; and her husband’s children, Thomas S. Wood and wife, Donna, Robert B. Wood and wife, Christiana, Holly Ann Mayfield, and Robin L. Hubbard.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge.
