ALDER STREAM TOWNSHIP, Maine — An elderly hiker was found late Thursday evening on Snow Mountain in Lincoln County after he did not return to a local fish and game club when expected.

Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service said in a statement that Rudy Graf, 79, of Newcastle left the Megantic Fish and Game Club in Seven Ponds Township around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

When Graf did not return when expected, a club employee hiked to the summit of Snow Mountain and back but did not locate Graf, according to MacDonald.

Game wardens were called for help, and Wardens Scott Stevens and Kris MacCabe headed up the trail from Alder Stream Township, joined by two club employees of the club.

Graf was found on a ridge near Snow Mountain Pond, according to MacDonald. He had made a fire after realizing he had taken the wrong trail back down the mountain. Graf was in good condition when he was found, with proper clothing keeping him warm.

  1. Wow, talk about lost!  He left Seven Ponds Township up near Corbun Gore (Franklin County) and was found Lincoln County, which is along the coast.

  2. The next time that LePage goes and makes all of these nasty ‘public employee’s are useless’ remark’s, and that Romney and Company label Government worker’s are an evil insturment of the Left, they might just want to have this article shoved in their face and asked how many people have to die before they are willing to admit that they have no idea as to what they are talking about. The Warden’s here in Maine are THE one’s that are the 1st called whenever these types of incident’s happen, just as they were called the other day in the Skowhegan area. Between them and the Forest Ranger’s, if you get in over your head in Maine’s wood’s, you had better be real glad they’re on duty. That or ask LePage and Romney when are they start calling up the local National Guard every time they need a 1st Responder that they consider a waste of time and money as far as they have said in public and to the media. After all, the National Guard is paid for by the DOD, not the Maine taxpayer, isin’t it ?

    1. Mike. I don’t recall LePage ever calling’public employee’s are useless’ This article has nothing to do with LePage OR Romney for that matter. I am happy they were able to rescue this man!! What the hell does the National Guard have to do with this? Your off topic. Good job Maine Game Wardens and the folks who worked at the camping club who assisted in the rescue!!!!!!!!

      1. At every turn LePage has done nothing disrespect and put down the public employee’s of Maine. Between his, and Romney’s, constant declaring public employee’s to be an evil instrument of Big Government he has basicly declared public service to be nothing but the lowest form of work and deserves no respect or protection, much less consideration, from the very public they serve.

And as far as the National Guard goes, when ‘the stuff’ goes flying and it’s beyond the capacity of the local public employee’s to cope, the Governor has only the National Guard to call on unless he calls DC and asks for Federal intervention. Here Maine has the Game Warden’s, who did super job in finding this gentleman who was in serious medical trouble before it turned tragic. That’s the real greatness, that these public employee’s can get the job done, regardless of the fact that their Governor has less respect for them than he does for the voter’s. The people of Maine know who’s gonna be there when ‘the stuff’ goes flying. And it’s proved everyday by the same folk’s that we know and respect, that apparently the Governor and his crony’s want to beat into submission like some knd of old Southern plantantion slave. Folk’s, the ‘You don’t like the job you can always go back to choppin’ cotton’ days are over. And every time that the Governor and his crony’s open their mouth and keep beating this statement to the public, he just makes the arguement more public.
