AUGUSTA, Maine — Two of Maine’s U.S. Senate candidates are debating the need for new gun controls following the shootings that took 12 lives and injured dozens of others in Colorado.

Democrat Cynthia Dill on Saturday called on Congress to renew a ban on assault weapons that expired in 2004.

Dill says one of the weapons seized from the suspect was an AR-15 assault rifle, would have been defined as a “semiautomatic assault weapon” and subject to sharp restrictions under the expired Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994.

Independent tea partier Andrew Ian Dodge says Dill’s using the Colorado event as an excuse to ban guns. Dodge says she’s using the evil actions of one man to call for limiting of rights of every law abiding citizen.

  1. Typically, Dill hasn’t got a clue! No wonder no one is supporting her bid.

    Okay Cynthia, real slow ’cause we all know you really are THAT blonde;

The failed ‘assault weapons ban’ wouldn’t have stopped this dirt-bag from getting this gun, or the drum magazine. They were both readily available during the ban! Reinstating it wouldn’t stop anyone!

Further, the ban was allowed to expire because it failed miserably in it’s pathetic attempt to do any of the things it’s supporters claimed!

Figures you would still support legislation proven to have failed! Also no surprise you would prostitute this tragedy in a sick attempt to get anyone to pay attention to your pathetic campaign.

Take what little money you have ………….and buy a clue!

  2. Punishing all Americans who have guns is not the answer–it is the user who is responsible for shooting the gun, and he will find a way to have one no matter what.
How did this 24 year old unemployed student afford the high tech gear and weapons?

  3. Thank God there are some level headed women in the state of Maine who have the guts to support the control of even the most extreme sort of gun. Name calling only fouls the mouth of the bully who resorts to it. Cynthia Dill, You go girl !

  4. Heck, why even ask ’em?

    Dill: “Yes.”
    King: “Yes, but.”
    Summers: “No, but.”
    Dodge: “No.”

    Gar-on-teed!

  5. I don’t see a real need for assault weapons to be so easily accessed. Enough with this paranoia that some gun control will lead to the complete banning of guns. That’s ridiculous. When we create a law that mandates a “buffer zone” for protestors at funerals, does that lead to a complete ban of free speech? Use some critical thought here people.

  6. Okay, let’s say access to guns is severely restricted.  What’s next?  Because people who are nuts WILL find a weapon.  Let’s see:  1) take away access to cars…because some wacko might drive one into a crowd of people.  2) Anything sharp…..because some wacko might get into an elevator full of people & stab everyone.  3) Rat poison….because someone who works in a restaurant might put some into the ground beef.  You get the idea.  Feel free to add to the list.

    1. Even countries that ban guns, do so in the cities, not in rural places and this is a pretty rural country relatively speaking. Why not give a person the right to protect themselves from those wackos, or a compromise. If you are trained to handle this type of situation, and in the USA I would think anyone should have the opportunity, then you should be able to hold or carry a weapon in such places where weapons are banned. Then maybe we can have some armed good guys to save some of those lives and keep others from getting injured.

  7. Again Cynthia Dill has idea of what she is talking about. Cynthia go back to the beach at Cape Elizabeth, stare out at the ocean and think you are seeing strawberry fields forever.

  8. Unfortunate that the actions of one are used as a catalyst to punish millions. Guns aren’t the problem. Take them away and you will see bombs, cars, and other methods of killing.  People that want to kill, will kill. Focus on that and how to fix it.

  9. The recent shooting in Colorado is a tragedy but is not the result of a lack of gun control. It is the result of a demented individual. All the gun control legistation in the world won’t stop an indivual who is bent on taking the life or another. If you don’t believe me, ask the secret service. They train daily based on that premise and have for years.

    1.  Everyone with more than just two brain cells knows that. Unfortunately some liberals don;t even have that!

    2.  Chicago has some of toughest gun laws in the country. It is also currently the murder by gun capital of the US.
      Gun Control works!!

  10. And that, Ms. Dill, is why the Washington dems are giving money to King. You will never be elected in this state calling for gun control.
