LEVANT and Montana – Winifred F. Winifred, 86, died July 19, 2012, at a Bangor health care center. She was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Saint John, daughter of John N. and Eva M. (Jackson) Gardner.

Winifred graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1944. In 1946, she married George Phillips of Montana, and moved to Montana to live and work as a nurse’s aide for many years. They were married for 57 years. Winifred had many fond memories of her time in Montana, and she always remembered the friends and family she left to come back to Maine. Winifred had a heart for those who had fallen on hard times and those less fortunate. She gave to many causes like Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wounded Soldiers, food pantries and Saint John Bible Church just to name a few.

In addition to her parents, Winifred was predeceased by her husband, George Phillips; and two brothers, Finley C. Gardner Sr. and Norman Gardner. Surviving are nieces, Edna Robinson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Donna Higgins of Belgrade; nephew, Finley C. Gardner Jr. of Etna; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Maine, Connecticut and Montana, who loved her very much.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Waugh Cemetery, Levant. Those who wish to remember Winifred in a special way may make gifts in her memory to a charity of their choice or one of Winifred’s listed above. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives, 205 Center St., Bangor.
