LIBERTY, Maine — A Michigan woman who suffered head and shoulder injuries last week in a motorcycle accident on Route 3 in Liberty has been released from the hospital, a nursing supervisor at Eastern Maine Medical Center confirmed Thursday.

Anita Bills, 58, of Mio, Mich., had been traveling in a group with three other motorcycles at 11:15 a.m. July 19, when the accident happened, according to Lt. Jason Trundy of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

A vehicle in front of the group of riders had stopped to make a left turn, and the motorcycles slowed, too, Trundy said.

Bills, who was riding her own 2004 Yamaha, hit the rear wheel of her husband’s motorcycle.

“It caused her to lose control of the motorcycle,” Trundy said.

Her motorcycle fell on the right side, and Bills struck her shoulder and head on the pavement. She was not wearing a helmet, Trundy said.

Her husband, Richard Bills, was not injured.

Anita Bills was taken by ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast and from there was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where she was listed in good condition on Tuesday.

Liberty Fire and Rescue and Liberty Ambulance assisted the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office at the accident scene, Trundy said.

  1. LOUD PIPES SAVES LIVES!

if you are in a vehicle with motorcycles behind you and you want
to take a left turn,..pull over to the side of the road and let us pass,
then get back on the road, and take your left turn

    1. Here’s a better idea:  If you’re on a motorcycle behind a car slowing and stopping to make a left turn, keep a careful lookout, distance, and speed, slowing and stopping if necessary, until the car makes his turn.  Then proceed.  If there’s enough space and pavement to the right of the car that is slowing or stopped to turn, and traffic conditions are safe, you can pass the car on the right.

      Wear a helmet, too.

      1. o wow    let me guess, your an out of stater.  this is maine dude.
we dont need nanny state little rules tellin us how to drive,,
we no how to drive dude

        1. o wow, let me guess, you’ve got loud pipes, a size 3 hat, a size 13 neck tattoo; and your guess, like your advise to car drivers, is wrong – dude.

    2. Why let you pass? Why not slow down like the rest of the traffic? If your not following to close and are paying attention there’s no problem, right?  If your not paying attention and something bad occurs, who’s fault is that? I’ve ridden bikes for over 30 years and never had a problem following and slowing down for traffic. It’s called responsible driving…

And loud pipes do not save lives! They just annoy the hell out of some people..
