PRESQUE ISLE and FORT FAIRFIELD – Wayne C. DeWitt, 75, husband of Lorraine M. (Chapman) DeWitt, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, July 24, 2012, at a Presque Isle health care facility. He was born July 6, 1937, in Fort Fairfield, son of Clarence and Ida M. (Jenkins) DeWitt.
He attended Fort Fairfield schools and was married to Lorraine M. Chapman, June 22, 1956. Wayne had been employed in the potato farming industry for many years by several area growers including B. Kimball Farms, S. Nightingale Co. and Beckwith Farms, Fort Fairfield, and he attended Easton Wesleyan Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. DeWitt was predeceased by one son, Randy Wayne DeWitt, Sept. 30, 2008; one brother, Gary DeWitt; and two sisters, Joyce LaFrance and Sharon Morrow. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lorraine of Presque isle; four sons, Ricky DeWitt of Presque Isle, Rocky DeWitt and his wife, Vickie, of Fort Fairfield, Robbie DeWitt and his wife, Cindy, of College Station, Texas, and Ronnie DeWitt and his wife, Maryline, of Connor; one daughter, Ruth Kish and her fiance, Richard Lacadie II, of Orono; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Helen DeWitt of Arizona and Vernon and Mary DeWitt of Sussex, New Brunswick; two sisters, Signa Doughty of Fort Fairfield and Doreen Cyr and her husband, Gerald, of Presque Isle; 11 grandchildren, Toni Lloyd and her husband, Chris, of Presque Isle, Mandy Reyes and her husband, Aaron, of San Antonio, Meagan DeWitt of Fort Fairfield, Lindsae Hadley and her husband, Ryan, of Ellsworth, Missy DeWitt of Caribou, Miranda DeWitt and her companion, Chad Saunders, of Caribou, Katrina Kish and her fiance, Jeremy McIntyre, of Old Town, Travis DeWitt of Fort Fairfield, Melisa Dewitt of Connor, Michael Kish of Milford and Adam DeWitt of College Station, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Jacob, Makayla, Blake and Jerimiah; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Randy (Bonnie Blevins) DeWitt of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, with Pastor Rob McDowell and Pastor Vaughn Martin co-officiating. Interment will be held after the service at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
