SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Police are on the lookout for a man they say tried to walk out of Walmart with a cart full of groceries last month and injured a greeter.

Jamie Higgins, a crime analyst for the Scarborough police department, said the incident took place shortly after noon on July 19.

When the greeter asked to see the suspect’s receipt, he grabbed her wrist and left the scene, and the cart, behind. Surveillance evidence from the scene shows the man fleeing in a maroon Ford Explorer, police say.

Higgins said this incident isn’t related to the man who allegedly used a camera to look up several shoppers skirts. That suspect also remains at large.

Anyone who has seen the suspect is asked to contact Scarborough police at 883-6361.

  1. stealing groceries is a pretty clear indication of hunger and desperation…a sign of the times unfortunately.

  2. In a jury trial- roughing up a beloved Wal-Mart greeter will not be the lesser of the charges. One might as well beat up Santa Clause. Everyone likes the grammy or grampy in the blue smock….including  the judges.

  3. I am in NO way condoning stealing, although I do feel bad, he was probably hungry. Its really sad, some of us are all 1 paycheck away from possibly doing things that are out of the norm.

      1. Umm..do you know if perhaps he may have had a family??? I never give anyone the benefit of the doubt, but who knows.

        1.  Maybe, but you do know one of the most common crimes like this is to FILL the cart with expensive items and then sell it ( Just ask Shaw’s employees ) . A family has many ways to get help with food that does not involve a man hurting a woman when caught. A humble person just trying to feed his family would say, look I am sorry, my family is hungry and I did something stupid.

          1.  I understand, you just want to see the best in people. Sadly, this day and age the thief’s have caught on to that. Just look at the story about the guy breaking into a house and when the police come he is arrested for 11 warrants for unpaid fines from all the other times he was arrested and given a break…he was not arrested for trying to break into the house. It pays to be a thief if you have no problem with serving a little time after your 4th or 5th arrest.

          2. I can’t stand a thief or a liar. Maybe I was putting myself in someone less fortunate situation. I’m generally not a sympathetic person..lol

  4. Walmart in Scarborough has greeters In the county the manager here decided we didnt need greeters.

  5. Maybe he use to work in a factory and fed his family, then wal-mart asked the owners of the factory to move to China to make the products cheaper. Wal-mart has office buildings full of people  that help compaines move overseas.
