EAST PITTSTON – Fernande M. Curtis, 93, formerly of East Pittson and Frenchtown Township, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center with her family at her side. She was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Augusta, the daughter of Henry and Juliet Lavallee Sansouci.
Fernande was employed at Gardiner Shoe Factory and at Margaret Smith Handbags, Randolph, for 10 years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Gardiner, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and was involved with the Cursillo Group. She also was a member of Holy Family Parish, Greenville.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth F. Curtis, who died Dec. 15, 2003; and also by her grandson, Dennis Curtis Jr. She is survived by her three children, Dennis Curtis and his wife, Sharon, and Kenneth Curtis Jr. and his wife, Hedy, both of Pittston, and Joyce Lessard and husband, Paul, of Frenchtown Township; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family thanks HealthReach Hospice and a special thank you to the staff at Heritage Rehabilitation & Living center for their loving care.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gardiner. Burial with committal prayers will be held afterward beside her husband at Old St. Augustine Cemetery, Augusta.
