BANGOR, Maine — Two local transients were charged with criminal trespass Friday morning after they were caught sleeping in a First Street apartment building.
Christopher Brodeur and Adam Preble, both 21, were summoned after a maintenance man looking after 84 First St. found the two in a room in a section of the building that had been condemned, Bangor police Lt. Tom Reagan said Friday, citing a police report.
Reagan said the two apparently gained access to the room through a window.

With this economy, is this that much of a crime? A warning was not good enough, maybe there is more to the story??
Might not have been a bad idea to take them to jail. A shower, meal and cot is better than an abandoned building
Private condemned property is probably the reason.
You are right, we should subjectively enforce law based on the economy and politics. Good plan.
Law should be based on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and the respect that everyone as it.
Maybe they did not want to use the local shelter. Anyone could be in the situation of being homeless in a fragile economy. Maybe there is more to the story. Otherwise, the arrest could be seen as providing them with “three hots and a cot”, which is somewhat better than crashing in an abandoned area. But what I want to know is when the War on Poverty became the War on the Poor.
Since the Democrats have declared war on the Tea Party.
Don’t you mean since the teaparty declared war on the democrats?
I guess the concept of personal responsibility is just too hard for some to grasp.
Yes, with some it’s personnal responsibility that’s hard to grasp, with others it’s truth. With some, it’s both.
Sure because being poor is a choice people make.
how did you morons go from an article about two homeless people getting busted for something stupid to battling about Politics? Don’t you get it the political party s are ALL the same they don’t give a crap about anyone but themselves. They are all a bunch of crooked liars.
I believe you have that backwards. The Tea Party does not represent me any more than the Republicans do. And all of the people of this country deserve representation, not just the certain few.
What DO they serve at your tea parties to make you so paranoid, cmy6? Logical, clear-thinking, intelligent people don’t soak up party propaganda.
Poverty = Poor
The war on poverty, the war on drugs, both had good intentions, both were doomed to fail.
Because once something’s declared a war, you have to make someone the enemy.
Maybe Bangor should have more resources for the homeless and low income adults and families?
Since we are speculating. Maybe they have a place to go and are just straight up crooks. Maybe we need a bigger jail and less liberal judges who are so eager to get crooks out.
Yes, maybe Bangor, and Maine in general, should just spend more money it doesn’t have. Bangor’s General Aid is already out of control. We give Mainecare to people well above the poverty level (unlike most other states) and we have made it easier to NOT work than TO work.
We have no idea why these two 21 year olds were sleeping there. They could be thieves, druggies, etc…we don’t know. If that is the case, I have zero sympathy for them.
They could have simply been tired and homeless.
21 yr. olds are not tired…they’re stoned.
Not in Gadael’s world.
Is there an endless supply of resources that we’re holding out on them? Last time I checked, it’s tax dollars that middle class/lower middle class families share the burden of…soon we will be taxed into joining them.
where are you gonna sleep?
On a beach in Hawaii, if it comes to that. Or…your porch!
Pat, you could never, ever build enough space. The bigger the space the more that come.. Though I have noticed that on the outskirts of Bangor, there are a lot of large houses with only 2 or 3 people living in them. With their kind liberal generosity they could invite people in to sare a family setting with them.
They were probably afraid to stay in the Bangor Homeless Shelter because it’s the only one in the state that houses sex offenders.
Two dudes spooning in an abandoned apartment shouldn’t be worried about who’s living at the shelter.
I’m curious about labeling people, I thought it wasn’t nice to sterotype people. . “Transients” Why not say two white fellows were found sleeping in a house, or 2 gay people, catholics, republicans. Please BDN could you be a little more PC in the future. you might offend the “transients”
There maybe more to this then being reported ………………. However, the main issue here is that it is a sad state of affairs in OUR Country when $BILLIONS & $BILLIONS & $BILLIONS in Tax monies are being given to Foreign Countries (some that would just as soon destroy this Country) while we have AMERICANS with no place to sleep, little food and maybe no heat in the winter.
were they hurting anyone or anything? it doesn’t sound like they were hurting anyone. They probably needed a dry roofed place to sleep. Even though the place has been condemed it is better then sleeping on the streets of any city. People go home and tonight when you get into your bed to sleep just think about it how would you like to NOT have that bed and dry room to sleep in.
They should move to Waterville. A 2.9 million dollar homeless shelter is being built there. Build it and they will come…..
I know these guys. They are good people. I have no idea why they would choose to break into a condemned building rather than stay at the shelter or knock on my door. If it were me, pride would be an issue. It isn’t always easy to ask for help. I just want people to know they aren’t thieves or druggies or bad human beings.
maybe they were just tired and poor, doubt it had anything to do with whos in office!!!!
Years back, I had friends that were allowed to stay on my couch from time to time…because they were working hard, homeless and unable to get to the shelter at the designated time to get a bed. (Most are now gainfully employed, including officers in the military, and are paying taxes, not collecting benefits.) The “system” is broken from every angle. ASS-U-ME away people!
