HIGH POINT, N.C. — In Paul Ryan’s high-energy debut as Republican vice presidential candidate, Mitt Romney’s campaign made one thing clear: Romney’s ideas rule, not his running mate’s.
Romney put gentle but unmistakable distance between his agenda and Ryan’s hot-potato budget proposals on Sunday as the new team soaked up excitement from partisans in North Carolina and Ryan’s home state of Wisconsin. But Democrats weren’t about to let them off that hook.
President Barack Obama, attending campaign fundraisers Sunday in Chicago, tagged Ryan as the “ideological leader” of the Republican Party.
“He is a decent man, he is a family man, he is an articulate spokesman for Gov. Romney’s vision but it is a vision that I fundamentally disagree with,” Obama said in his first public comments about Ryan’s selection.
Earlier, Obama’s senior campaign adviser David Axelrod deemed Ryan’s budget “the Ryan-Romney plan” and cast the new addition to the Republican ticket as a choice “meant to thrill the most strident voices in the Republican Party, but it’s one that should trouble everybody else — the middle class, seniors, students.”
Romney walked a careful line as he campaigned with Ryan by his side in North Carolina. Romney singled out Ryan’s work “to make sure we can save Medicare.” But the presidential candidate never said whether he embraced that plan himself. During the Republican primary, Romney had called Ryan’s budget a “bold and exciting effort” that was “very much needed.”
Ryan proposed to reshape the long-standing entitlement by setting up a voucher-like system to let future retirees shop for private health coverage or choose the traditional program — a plan that independent budget analysts say would probably mean smaller increases in benefits than current law would provide.
Romney and Ryan, in their first joint television interview Sunday, were clearly mindful that some of Ryan’s proposals don’t sit well with key constituencies, among them seniors in critical states like Florida and Ohio. Each man sought to reassure older voters they wouldn’t take away their benefits, with Ryan saying his mother was “a Medicare senior in Florida” and Romney vowing there would be “no changes” for seniors currently counting on the popular federal program.
“In America, the nature of this country has been giving people more freedom, more choices,” Romney said in an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes.” “That’s how we make Medicare work down the road.”
Romney aides, echoing talking points they circulated to party leaders and operatives, praised Ryan’s budget work, but sought to draw a distinction between his ideas and Romney’s.
“Gov. Romney is at the top of the ticket,” Romney spokesman Kevin Madden told reporters Sunday. “And Gov. Romney’s vision for the country is something that Congressman Ryan supports,”
On CNN, Romney senior adviser Ed Gillespie said Romney would have signed Ryan’s proposed austere budget if it landed on his desk as president. But he also emphasized that Romney would “be putting forward his own budget” if he wins the election.
Romney’s selection of Ryan has jolted the presidential contest, until now one that had done little to draw the public’s attention, and set the contours for the fall campaign: Romney as a proponent of a friendlier business climate seeking to revitalize the economy and rein in federal spending and Obama casting himself as a defender of middle-class families and federal spending on health care, retirement pensions and education.
Three months from Election Day, polls find Obama with a narrow lead over Romney, though the race remains tight in key battleground states. And while Ryan’s selection raised the role of government spending and Medicare in the election, the fundamentals of the campaign remained unchanged: a race defined by a weak economy and high unemployment, measured most recently at 8.3 percent in July.

Already a schism at the top among the Rs (as predicted). Ryan has already had disagreements with the Catholic Church so that’s another wedge. Doesn’t look good for R & R (& Rs).
Even if you repeat it often enough, it still does not make it true. Although the typical liberal echo chamber will keep trying.
R&R = V&V
Romney and Ryan = Vulture & Voucher
Ryan’s proposed budget would be so devastating to working-class Americans and middle-class Americans that Catholic Bishops, hardly known as political progressives, condemned it when it was first pushed by fellow Catholic Ryan. For once, the Catholic Church’s leaders grasped the further enrichment of the 1% that Ryan’s dearly wants for America. Romney can’t disavow this fanaticism in choosing Ryan. Yes, Ryan carefully pushes the image of a solid policy wonk, but his policies are extreme and won’t be acceptable to most Americans, thank God.
Mitt had no choice, walking stiff Herman Munster couldn’t be president and not let little Eddie at least be able to come and visit the White House once and a while. Like our Mr. LePage, folks of this “type” like to keep family close.
hardly a lepage … not even close
Your policy critiques are just masterful, Still! Oh wait, nothing there but vitriol and hate. Ahh yes, tolerant progressives, that explains it.
You made a comment about twenty comments ago that even if you repeat something enough, it does not make it true. Yet you try, and try, and try. Funny how you have to label everyone that disagrees with you.
Kiss Social Security and Medicare good bye, while the rich bask in even more money.
once again . ..you have shown that you will listen to the left and form an opinion and without hesitation post a comment that is bizzare… read the budget.. read all of it .. you then would know that if your are 55 now there will be absolutely no change in SS for you .. ever.. and that the change is an effort to SAVE the SS system.. under Obama .. who has already cut 700billion out of medicare, the Social Security would be dead in 9 years.. forever.. Obama took the 700 to help pay for obama care.. a clear thieft of taxpayers money… the only one who has changed SS/medicare is obama.. stealthly done but done nevertheless.. so please read the budget that you say will end social security and find out the truth.. sometimes it’s fun to be honest.. try it
You dont have any Idea as to what you are talking about!
The 700 billion was savings in administration efficientency!
NO Benefits where lost!
You are believing the Lies that have been perpetraited on you to deceive you!
Administration Efficiency!? Riiiiiiight! Thanks for the big laugh, Dlbrt.
Show me the Lost Benefit!
Everyone knows his statement was a lie!

This is going to be fun to watch. It is easy to see why libs are in panic mode. Ryan at least has an actual plan (something the Dems have been unable to come up with) and the biggest threat to Medicare is actually President Kardashian’s indefensible gutting it to the tune of $700 billion for his Obamacare. Can’t run on the record, can’t run on the economy, can’t run on hopey/changey anymore. Nothing left for the Dems but to spread fear and misinformation. Get the popcorn ready and watch the libs squeal and froth!
Get your drink out because you’ll be choking on your popcorn.
Good try again gopher40.
Paul Ryan does not have problems with the Catholic Church. A liberal faction does not represent the Church as liberal views do not represent all of America’s views.
Seniors will be supportive when they read Ryan’s budget and find no changes will be made in Medicare to those over 55 years of age. Those younger than 55 better hope some changes are made or there will be nothing left for us. Now if you could justify Obama cutting $700 million dollars from today’s Medicare program which will affect current seniors that would be plenty helpful. I’m listening…..
This is the AP article I’ve been citing for a day or so. And it sure looks like Ryan does have problems with a significant portion of the Catholic Church. You can try to whitewash it but I don’t think they’ll let you.
Ryan’s not running for President.
That’s like saying that LBJ wasn’t running for President, or Jerry Ford. Ryan would gut this country and feed the financial pieces to his rich benefactors. He hates S.S., but didn’t mind drawing it himself. when his dad died.
In fact he is. Constitutionally, the VP must be capable of stepping up to the POTUS position should the Commander in Chief be incapacitated.
McCain lost the election for similar reasons; his running mate was scaring people.
Would Obama get any votes if the media would state this about Biden? I think we both know the answer.
the old, ‘blame it on the media’.
weak.
Joe Biden runs circles around both of the corporate toadie JOB KILLERS Mittens RobMe and Paulie RyAynRand. Team-Obama and Dems are going to make sure every American becomes well aware of the RobMe/RyAyn plan to destroy Medicare and Social Security, to destroy college loans, to destroy education in general, to destroy healthcare in general, and to destroy infrastructure advancement, all so that their job-killing corporate millionare buddies like the Koch Brothers can have more tax cuts just they can then hide it in the Caymans and in Swiss bank accounts. It is just disgusting.
what is the matter with you people..???? Read the budget, there you will find the truth.. there is absolutely nothing in it that would destroy SS, it’s exactly the opposite.. read the budget..or as an alternative you can just keep repeating what the lame stream media is telling you to repeat, so you can be a nice little robot…. where the heck do you people come from .. is MARS too far away
When someone gives you Money to buy your own insurance policy on the open market instead of insuring you, the whole game has been fundementally changed!
Truth? Where? Where?
paul, they don’t want to know the truth. It upsets their carefully-constructed worms-eye liberal view of everything.
there is nothing similiar between palin and ryan… it there is can you please let the readers here know what it is … now would be a good time to that…please
Palin and Paul are both reactionist, ultra-right members of their party chosen to give credibility to their moderate running mates.
They’re both tea potty darlings, they have plenty in common and are similarly out of touch with reality, both being Ayn Rand disciples.
No, but he’s now on the “team”.
Yes, he has a problem with the Catholic Church, the very liberal dying portion of it. The portion that ignored the ever growing homosexual priesthood, the that allowed pervert priests who were getting away with abusing young boys, the portion that is pro choice and pro homosexual marriage.
Yours is one of the most UNCHRISTIAN posts I have ever seen. SHAMEFUL and UNTRUE. Jesus Christ would be disgusted with your post.
Why?
Try reading, lets. Reading. Remember that thing they tried to teach you? Reading. You are either deliberatly being obtuse or you are overdue for a class in reading comprehension.
Either way, do you not see how great a target you’ve become for the master manipulators?
They thrive on the likes of you.
Hmm. I thought the Catholic Church was pitched as so unified. If the liberal/moderate wing is “dying” it’s because the old guard is pushing them out. By definition, the old guard is dying out. Oh, and I thought it was the old guard bureaucracy that was sheilding pedophile priests. Hardly the liberal wing. They’re the ones who have been protesting.
Umm you got it backward and no the Church is not unified. Most Catholics are clueless or either don’t really care what their church teaches. The old guard is your liberal, pro homosexual marriage , pro abortion, protect the pedophile and homosexual priest crowd. It’s the younger more vibrant, pro life, pro traditional marriage that will keep the Church alive and growing.
Again, your groupings seem inconsistent with your labels of young and old, etc. And Church unity seems to be what many commenters are stressing. And I’ll bet that a majority of Catholics would take umbrage at your statement that they are clueless.
I think it more like 300 billion in cut’s in his plan.
You are repeating untrue right wing talking points. First, FULL regular fee-for-service Medicare benefits are not touched under the Obama plan. Not one cent. The reforms come through rooting out the fraud, waste, and abuse in the system (which the Republicans always insisted was necessary, such as provider over-billing, etc.) and in savings from the additional so-called Medicare Advantage program which is really a Bush-era giveaway to the insurance companies. Again, all regular fee-for-service Medicare is fully protected and preserved under the Obama plan. The same reforms to Medicare Advantage are included in the Ryan budget, and Ryan also wants to kill regular Medicare going forward and turn it into a VoucherCare plan where seniors are given a voucher and told to go buy a prviate plan. (So if you are 55 and have paid into Medicare and Social Security for over 30 years, TOUGH LUCK SAYS RYAN, you get THE SHAFT.) At the very same time, Ryan wants TRILLIONS more dollars in tax cuts for the rich. He also wants to send Social Security out onto the stock market. It is just digusting. Social Security is fully solvent for the next 25 years. Medicare is currently fully solvent, and both programs can be easily extended well further into the future by simply raising the $110,000 taxable cap on those making over that much money per year so that more is invested in those trust funds, very modestly on the low end and then gradually more as income levels increase. At the same time, there is PLENTY of budget savings to be had by becoming SANE and realizing we don’t need a military bigger than China’s, by fairly raising taxes on the millionaires and billionaires while preserving those for the middle class, by ending the corporate tax loopholes and offshore tax shelters, and by ending tax subsidies for oil corporations and other corporations.
RobMe and RyAynRand are corporate toadies to the very hilt, and we will bash them very, very hard on their plans to destroy Medicare and Social Security just so that they can give even more tax cuts to their corporate masters. RobMe and RyAyn’s plans are extremely UNPATRIOTIC and UNCHRISTIAN. And here in Maine, we are going to CRUSH the right wingers come November. Mainers have had enough of their NONSENSE. Enough of LeBUFFOON and his rubber-stampers in the legislature.
Careful Tinserblic. You’re making a real good case for your running for Paulie’s current job. Short of Barb Merrill coming back, soon, you’ve got my vote !
You know what people are going to like? “Under Paul Ryan’s budget, Mitt Romney would pay 0% taxes.” That is going to go over really well! People are going to love it!
Ryan’s plan would privatize Social Security and make seniors purchase health care insurance on the open market with vouchers that wouldn’t cover the cost. Can you imagine a senior having to purchase health care coverage on the open market and the costs involved?
Really….tell me how you came to the conclusion that 2 ,yes, two bishops at the Bishops Conference voiced a concern about the Ryan budget along with the liberal nun’s group of 47 named Network. YOU are not entitled to make up your own facts. ( In reply to bunyan1
The guy who took the government to the brink of default?
Ryan also lower the US credit rating and increased the interest rate the government has to pay to borrow.
Let the circus begin, but first folks play a couple rounds of Three Card Monte with Mitt and Paul. Now watch the heart
I’m not sure what is more shallow – Ryan’s plan or Romney’s attempt to distance himself from it (after picking this guy as his second wife).
neither is shallow.. and neither is romney distancing himself.. that’s something the libs made up to divide the two.. it worked on you but that isn’t saying much.. most commited libs will buy into what ever lame stream media has to say.. you did and many others will .. it won’t be enough .urge Obama to run this campaign on his record.. explain his success’ and discuss his plans for the future of America.,, tell us how he will secure our borders, reduce spending and decrease taxes, tell us about fast and furious, about his sealed records , his birth place, his muslim religion, where he gets his ring and watch fixed each august.. and when will the 57 th state be visited this time around..
You are correct Paul. The libs need this lame narrative to distract from the fact that the President’s own choice for VP is dumber than a box of rocks. They have nothing to run on but fear. Not pretty.
I approve of Mitt Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan as his running mate……..
cause it’ll make Obama’s landslide victory that much easier.
L-O-L. If you think this November is going to be a landslide in favor of Obama and the socialist liberals, you are so misinformed it’s almost not worth the time taken to type this response. If there is going to a landslide, realistically, it will be in favor of Romney and the conservative republicans. There have been too many issues Obama made promises for and certainly has not held up his end of the deal. He has made too many controversial statements (“…you didn’t build that”), just in the past 6 months, that have ultimately put more people on the see-saw, if not migrating to the other side, from left to right, unsure of which way to lean when November comes. Spending the most money in his first 19 months of all other presidents combined (through Reagan) is amongst the controversey as well- given our current economy and the health and sustainability of it. Let’s not forget, the “landslide” in ’08 of Obama beating the even more liberal than Obama, McCain, was only a difference of just over 7%. We should all agree, Romney and Ryan are far better candidates than McCain and Palin.
I am not saying it will be a landslide either way, because I don’t think it will be. I think it will be tight up until the last hour of votes counted and someone will win by 2 or 3 percent. Both sides of the aisle have strong and opposing thoughts and plans for many of the key area’s.
I just hope we, the American people, will vote as a nation realistacally, meaning, don’t vote for Ron Paul because he has NO chance. Don’t write in a name, because they have NO chance. We need a record turnout from the PEOPLE that make this nation go. We need the people to speak and vote for what they believe in. Be it Obama/Biden or Romney/Ryan…….. GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!
the only landslide will be in kenya .. as in 2013 obama is defeated in an effort to control of his home country after he is sounded beat in the 012 election based on his continued insistance to destroy america and turn it into a socialist country like Greece
Whoa-come up for air there, Paul. You win the award for the longest run-on sentence in BDN history. Unfortunately, none of it makes sense.
Right, people are just waiting to REWARD the president with four more years for the crappy economy, sky-high gas prices, nearly double digit unemployment, corrupt AG, failed green energy policies, his crony capitalism, his excessive regulations, his takeover of the nation’s healthcare and instituting death panels. With a track record like that, good thing the media is in the tank for him. Many voted for him four years ago to show they were not racist. Now many will vote against him to show they are not stupid.
Kasie Hunt is trying to be objective in this article, but does not succeed. He / she does not understand the seriousness of the problems we face, nor do those willing to give the Pres 4 more years….
“Hot potato budget”! While the BDN appears to control daily propaganda through a legion of inexperienced syncophants and socialists, one thing is for certain: America’s destiny could not be any more clearer. The choice between a callow, arrogant, affirmative action lackey, who has repeatedly demonstrated the effects of the “Peter Principle” with unmistakable clarity; a man-child, who stirs the waters of social unrest by pitting a generational welfare mentality against hard work and discipline; and an inveterate fabuler, who advocates for everything that is contrary to the Constitution, decent moral values and financial accountability. Americans have been shamed and embarrassed far too long by the antics of an ideological failure who was no more prepared to handle the task of an order taker at McDonald’s than to occupy a national position where character and integrity should be de rigueur. That should be the story line.
Mr. Potato Head’s budget would be more in keeping with the mentality of those championing it. Anyone who has watched the Right wing in action has to admit that after eight consecutive years of Bush they had no intensions of balancing anything. They had plenty of time to address Health Care in a responsible way but instead they floated the idea of privatizing it, which sank like lead balloon. Not to mention the fact that the author of this budget (Mr. Potato Head) was Bush’s rubber stamp boy.
It’s high time for those who laud their brilliant foresight’s as moral and constitutionally correct to stick it where the sun don’t shine. The Right wing has proven that when holding the reins of power they’ll run the cart into a ditch then light it on fire, only to claim ignorance after the disaster.
I understand… you’re more comfortable with the concept of picking up a welfare check each week while leading a life of quiet desperation in the shadow of your inferiors.
What, no highbrow Melville stuff, no harpooning of the white whale, just a typical personal attack. Who da thunk.
Who you callin’ inferior? And how do you know if wee collect welfare checks?
Leave Thoreau out of it. He’d be insulted that you amended his quote with a quip about inferior people. That offensive remark is simply not consistent with his writings.
… and claim the insurance :)
Dressing up your racism in empty verbiage doesn’t make you cute, smart, or anything else good. Any disagreement sends you in high-gear self-victimization mode and it’s pathetic. Is it really so beyond you to respond to dissent without screeching and or personal attacks?
Are you suggesting that the “typical white” trash element frequently associated with Obama’s maternal heritage by the news media is noteworthy as racism?
Keep posting, Que. The more I read from you, the more you reveal about yourself and none of it is pretty.
Very erudite, but some hyperbolic mis-definitions.
Erudite? What about “more clearer”?
“More clearer?” Lousy English.
Goph – Quequeeg uses a lot of $2 words, but shows weak reasoning, something a thesaurus cannot help. He also misses key grammar such as more clearer.
I am suggesting that you have reached your own level of incompetency with this posting.
What an irrational, illogical, patently false, and even pompous rant. Yes, the choice couldn’t be clearer. It is between a couple of corporate toadies, bought and paid for by the likes of ALEC and the Koch Brothers bent on destroying the American middle class so they can continue to give unbridled tax cuts to job-killing corporatists who dance for joy over dollar they hide in their offshore tax shelters as compared to leaders who actually care about the entire nation. The current President inherited an economy in tatters, thanks entirely to President Rove, Vice-Corporatist Cheney, and their puppet Shrub, a gang of corrupt corporate pawns who twisted their mustaches at night trying to figure how to anihilate anything good for the vast majority of Americans. This new President and his team have at least been able to undo some of the damage with 28 straight months of job growth, the largest investments in alternative energy we’ve ever seen, and a host of other important accomplishments even despite the most hypocrital obstructionism we have ever seen from an opposition party. You dress up the drug addict and college dropout Rush Limpmind’s endless gasbaggery about “socialism,” but it is just the same old tired and ridiculous tripe. Amazing how right wingers stand there and bla bla bla about “socialism” while they adore their own Medicare, adore their own Social Security, adore the most “socialist” organization there is that being the U.S. military, adore endless tax subsidies for oil corporations, adore no-bid military industrial complex contracts, adore their own plethora of local and state services from infrastructure to public parks to public schools to public safety. And then you people turn around and bash the poor as you give our money to the rich. It is just disgusting. Presidential qualifications? MittTwitt RobMe with his silver spoon stuck in his mouth has spent a life killing jobs, hiding his money offshore, and was so awful as governor of Massachusetts he didn’t dare to run for a second term, knowing he’d have been pounded to pieces. There wasn’t a fee in the state he didn’t raise. He is an ultra-flip-flopper having flipped and flopped like a pathetic fish out of water on about every issue there is. What a phony. What a fake. Even now he is trying to run away from some of his own running mate’s disasterous plans which he once said were “marvelous.” And how about those tax returns? What about it MittTwitt? Just what are you hiding? His overseas trip clearly demostrated what an incompetent cardboard cutout he is. And Paulie RyAynRand? Little more than a TeaRadical toadie with a bad case of five o’clock shadow. You invoke the Constitution. The average TeaRadical has never read it and doesn’t know a tinker’s darn about its history. In fact the US Constitution was designed to strengthen and broaden federal power. What you tearadicals really want is to return to the Articles of Confederation. Except you really don’t, as underneath all the bla bla bla you are really as “socialist” as anyone, if not moreso. So keep wallowing in your utter delusions. You’ll be tasting some reality come November 6th, especially here in Maine as we send LeBUFFOON’s legislative TeaFools packing in a big way.
Very well put!! I could not agree with you more. The truth is out about the treasonous tea potty movement. Bunch of fascist corporate shills.
if you have to distance yourself from your running mate…well, maybe you picked the wrong running mate?
Duh. Uh, how is it that you and I “get it.” but the would-be president hasn’t a clue? And he thinks he can run a country. Sure.
I think it speaks to the fact that he is a flip flopper. He isn’t conservative enough, so he picked a very conservative candidate, yet is distancing himself already. Romney is just not committed to his own message.
flip meets flop.
Hello, the AP reported it. You know, that unbiased bastion of political objectivity? Too funny.
if you have to distance yourself .. that would be true.. where did hear that romney is distancing himself from his VP pick ? and does it make any sense to you ? if it does you need a check up
excuse me. did you read the article on which we are both commenting?
Read? Huh? What’s that? We’ve been told to just open our sponge brains and soak up the rhetoric.
Don’t buy the lib spin. The only distance is in the amount of people turning out at their events compared to the empty Obama/Biden halls. Or the amount of $ pouring in to their coffers.
Ryan is just another spoiled rich kid republican that has no concept of what it’s like to work for a living. He doesn’t understand that millions of working class Americans expect the government to uphold the promises made to them.
Ah yes, so Mr. Obama has more likely walked in your shoes, yes!? Riiiight. Romney earned his money. Obama played every card conceivable to get into Occidental, Yale, etc. Yet he then felt the need to pay $4 million dollars to hide all of his records, transcripts, course lists etc. Sounds like maybe the word “earned” might not apply to anything there. Obama has never earned a paycheck outside of government. Romney has. One could go on, but I guess most libs would rather live in denial until the bitter end.
Actually I said Ryan, not Romney, though we could question Romney’s tax status if you want. Seems like most die hard republicans just can’t accept the fact that the GOP we grew up with and were proud of has now sold itself to big business. No doubt though we are headed for “the bitter end”.
Romney Earned?
$100,000.00 a year to claim that you where the CEO of a company, that you later claim that you did absolutely nothing for!
It’s my belief that Romney may be a thief and a liar!
If you blame Obama for using every possible legal loophole to his advantage you need to blame the Vulture King as well!
So Ronnie picks a disciple of the Anti-Christ Ayn Rand. I would like to know how anybody how actually believes in her ideas can be considered a Christian. Nothing there but egotistical greed. I guess it’s a good match.
Haven’t seen if Ryan is Catholic but I assume he is. The ayn Rand identification s what got the Bishops who criticized him going.
Ryan’s plan has all but called for the elimination of the mortgage interest deduction in the tax return’s. Now, as anyone who has bought a house and done the ‘whole math’ knows, the 1st 5 years of any house payment process is payment on the interest, usually to the point of the monthly payment being 75 to up to 90 % of the payment going toward that interest. On the Federal 1040 Form that interest is THE major deduction you get before anything else is deducted. It’s so important that the IRS requires a Interest Paid statement attached as proof. The Bank’s and Mortgage Lender’s know this and are always in compliance (They are also now finding out the penalties for being stupid !).
That mortgage interest is usually the largest percentage of whatever return you get. It’s also a huge chunk of cash that circulates annually that any number of business’s and industries count on for revenue. Homebuilder’s, furniture manufacturer’s, appliance maker’s, car dealer’s and every other major retailer looks for it. Ever wonder why there are so many sudden ‘sales’ on major home items pushed so hard between Feb and April 15th ? Ever wonder why so many of these so-called ‘Tax Assistance’ sites suddenly start bombarding you with mailer’s and TV ad’s to the point to just getting sick ? That return is the reason. The economy looks for it too since it fuels these industries as well. That means jobs and an improved business climate. And Ryan’s plan want’s to eliminate it. How many of you are ready to jump on the wagon and start drinking the kool-aid ? You can bet that Romney, Ryan and the rest of the GOP and TP Bunch already have their CPA’s working on their returns even now with this Ryan Plan factored in. Must be nice to have a running start to keep from being the one’s tossed under the bus just to show your loyal to whoever has the biggest checkbook, isin’t it ?
Oh, and let’s not forget the health insurance deduction that’s on the Schedule C. Anyone wanna guess where that’s at on the chopping list ?
Bwahahahahaha…The JOB KILLER and the MEDICARE KILLER. Couldn’t ask for a better couple of corporate toadies to CRUSH in November. Sorry Mittens, you don’t get to run away from TeaRadical Ryan’s plan to destroy Medicare and Social Security so you can both give even more job-killing tax cuts to your corporate masters. You are on record saying you support the Ryan budget and think it is “marvelous.” You don’t get to Etch-A-Sketch that one away.
Hot potato?
Don’t you mean Rotten Potato’s?
They’ve been together for less than 72 hours and they already need some distance…..
LOL, so it’s going to be this in November:
[Obama and Biden] vs. [Romney vs. Ryan]
At least Ryan’s budget exists, and tries to deal with runaway spending. From the blog “Hot Air:”
The Democrats have not passed a budget for three years now: the best they can do is point the finger and shout “Extremist! Extremist!”
Your political experience began in 2008. You might want to dig a little further back to fill in the blanks.
My political experience began with Truman beating Dewey. Politicians have never been other than shortsighted, but in the last ten years their relentless vote-buying has finally caught up with us: they have spent us dry.
Granted, the Republicans from 2000 (or even earlier) on spent as irresponsibly as Democrats, but so what? That’s not a reason to pick Democrats, it’s a reason to pick nobody (hence the Tea Party).
Or at least, nobody who is unaware that there is no more money – in government or private hands – for government to spend. Ryan appears to be aware of this.
How is it that in your world congress is only made up of ” Democrats “?
How is it that it’s the Presidents fault ?Presidents have no control over the budget until its done and then just a signing or a veto!Have they got different rules or something in PFPorlock land?
WTF is a “NASCAR” technical institute?
Sounds like a Lepage school for the dumb Mainers who need to take a special test for college.
You know, the ones who are looked down on and all that.
Obama has already signed legislation to cut $500B from Medicare. Half a trillion dollars that won’t go for quality senior care.
Why does Barry want to kill old people?
That’s not the part being cut, nice try though.
You failed your current events test. The reductions in what is budgeted for Medicare spending decrease because (1) costs are contained under the new law and grow more slowly and (2) many covered by Medicare/Medicaid now would receive benefits through private carriers under the ACA. Obamacare itself makes no cuts explicitly to these programs.
By 2020, Obamacare will be the most popular law passed by congress in the last fifty years. The idea that as patients we are entitled to care when we pay our premiums has been foreign for too long. The scariest thing about the law for conservatives is they have always known that once the people have access to a better and more accountable system, they will never tolerate the old profiteering model again. And they are right about that.
So let me ask you, why do you want to lie to old people?
It is a vision I do not agree with sez Obama. What vision? Running the USA and turning it Socialist. Thank God for the MUTE button.
how is Obama turning the country socialist? By promoting a healthcare plan that was crafted by Romney and McCain?
SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE SS GOING BROKE THEY RAID IT ALL THE TIME> WE CANNOT GIVE AND GIVE FOR MASSAGES TATTOOS ETC WITH FOOD STAMPS> IT IS TIME FOR US ALL TO WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE> I CANNOT BELIEVE MY BELOVED MAINE HAS BEEN INVADED BY MOONBATS.
cap locks are so rude. stop yelling.
Even the newest of newbies to computers knows that posting anything in capital letters is the equivalent of shouting. My beloved Maine has been invaded by seamonsters.
It hasn’t been invaded by anyone. Food stamps are not used for tattoos and massages. They are used by 99% of the recipients for ….food.
Social Security has long term funding issues (beyond your lifetime) but these can be fixed by making a small change to the formula. The wage base makes SS the most regressive tax out there. If we eliminate the wage base, the long term solvency issues disappear.
You may like to call them moonbats but what you are really talking about is neighbors who disagree with you. America is at is best when being a neighbor is more important than ideology. Your choice to cast away your neighbors to amplify your ideology may explain why you are unhappy and write in all caps like a madman. Click that little CAPS LOCK once more and chat with a democrat in your community and you might find your rant was more hyperbole and that there is much we actually agree on, once you shed the partisan attacks.
We all hate waste friend. We all yearn for better times. No party really has a franchise on these things though many argue that way.
Too bad so many cowards are taking time today to spew venom at this highly responsible VP pick. Romney, Ryan and others see that our bloated entitlements are sending us toward a cliff, similar to one many European countries are now scrambling (and mostly failing) to avert.
Grow up, people. We are trillions in debt thanks to the politicians we have put in office that say they will reduce govt but very rarely do. Romney/Ryan will – take that to the bank.
And keep playing your class warfare card – it won’t work in this country, where so many still believes a life of responsibility, dedication and achievement deserve reward.
You are currently chug-a-luging Republican venom as we speak. The masses are dumb. You are right. Think about it.
Responsible and Ryan do not belong in the same sentence. Paul Ryan is actually a very simple man to understand. Take the most extreme positions of a conservative who was schooled on Ayn Rand and his positions are not unique or special.
Responsibility entails equal measure of understanding what is possible and what is right or just. While Ryan has a solid grip on what an extremist budget might look like, he is completely deficient in the morality piece. Objectivists, those who believe as Rand did, that we are weaker when we help people, are morally bankrupt.
Everything that has made America the envy of the world came of our shared experience and support for leaving the ground more fertile for the next generation than we found it. Ruling for those who have already achieved wealth and intend to protect it is to relinquish every bit of what made us great.
The reason Ryan is a bad choice goes far beyond his position on this bill or that. Ryan is bad for America because he places no value on creating or even maintaining those things that create true opportunity for people to achieve their potential. His is a cold world in which the rightful have already found success and wealth and that government should protect that class of superior citizens.
There is no better future on the horizon for the son of a middle class factory worker in Romney – Ryans world. They will swindle you if you think the election is about values. The ideologies of Romney and Ryan are antithetical to morality. They are the most amoral candidates possibly in our history.
Dedication, hard work and achievement do deserve reward. At least some of that reward should come as an increase in pay. These are the people who have dedicated their lives to making sure that the gains of American productivity go exclusively to the owners, and not a dime to the workers. Give these two a congress that agrees with them and within a few years, wage earners will be the only taxpayers left. Ryans budget reduces Romneys taxes to 0.82%. That is pretty close to zero. As for me, I pay 18% and would pay more if I knew it was going to help the American people. Unfortunately, we spend more on corporate subsidies and war than we do on our own people. These two would make that even worse.
Romney and Ryan and two man death squad.
I like Ryan better than Romney. So namecallers will call me something. We live in the USA and we all have our 1st Amendment Rights, too bad for all the discourse though! I am reading the Ryan Plan that I have posted in my office for quite some time now from the “Wall Street Journal” and think it is responsible and quite doable and makes a lot of sense. So it probably won’t wash in the big wash tub of DC. I think some of you should look it up, read and digest it before any more commenting. I also wish Gov. Romney if elected would adopt the Ryan plan along with Congress. The article is titled: “A GOP Road Map for America’s Future” “There’s still time to rejuevenate our market economy and avoid a European-style welfare state.” The European Style Welfare State scares me, most of California is already there, Maine is getting closer all the time. I don’t believe welfare was the idea our forefathers envisioned for our future or what we believed in when we were kids when older folks asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. Welfare should be a safety net not a way of life.
The Republican media outlets have learned well how to spew there venom against Obama. They are the modern day “Tokyo Rose”. Some folks eat it up, some don’t. Romney and Ryan will cast there nets around many middle class people in hopes that they will agree that taking away Social Security and Medicare from them is vital to there own success, and that giving more tax breaks to the rich, is the right thing to do. Cold, self centered people eat it up. We will find out in November if there nets are full of holes. Time will tell.
Mitt’s VP pick is a multi millionaire. Surprised?
Ryan’s main goal is to shred Medicare, which many of us have contributed to and continue to pay on a monthly basis. Ryan will tear that up and give you a $40 gift certificate to visit your doc’.
The right wing tea party radicals will chew that last remark up. Because they’re all rich, too. The people who helped them attain their riches should be held back “in their rightful place.” Rip that up, too.
Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin inherited along with his rich wife, millions of dollars. They, like Romney, can’t tell you exactly, but the fig’ is between $2 and $7.7 million.
On top of that, or, as pocket money, Taxpayers give him a salary of $174,000 a year along with a healthy socialistic (couldn’t resist that) medical plan that would make us weep. No co-pay for Ryan – he has it all, courtesy of the U.S. Taxpayer. Government funded medical assistance is put down by radical right wingers as “Socialism – Marxism.” But Paul and Mitt would not like you saying that about their medical plan. Sure, it’s financed by the government – so what?
It’s different. Radical Right Wingers will tell you it is. Or, completely ignore this. After all, it’s okay for them, but not for us. You’ll get a Voucher. How nice of Paul. Such generosity. I can hardly wait to get a voucher to help pay $40 toward my monthly $4,000 plus medical bill. PS: Yes, I have insurance and co-pay. I’m not a communist,or, fascist. A moderate, who really knows and lives frugality. Peanut butter – anybody?
Oh, half a mo’ – during the years Paul is picking up his $174,000 each year with free quarters and a fabulous medical ( no communist, socialist) care plan, he was busy playing the stocks. Small stuff. He only pocketed between $168,000 to $1.2 million last year.
No wonder he wants to hand out gift certificates rather than health care, one of his major stocks is Bristol Myers, a global bio pharmaceutical company. They spend billions just advertising their pills and whatever. And, just like dozens more give you almost a dozen reasons to use care when using some of their products.
Ryan is also into Squibb, another part of the multi-billion dollar corporation that makes and sells pharmaceuticals.
He and his wife, also richly endowed, share a modest home worth around $500, 000 in Wisconsin.
I’m not against anyone making money. I’m working toward making some for myself and family each day. But, when you have so much, and depend on us tax payers for the bulk of your salary, why be such a Scrooge with those who have less?
Romney doesn’t have to “distance” himself from any plan.
At least Ryan put out a plan and contrary to the libber liars
it doesn’t devastate anything. Over a period of years…too many
at that…it cuts govt handouts and allows people who WANT to
fend for themselves to get off the taxpayer’s back. A plan is just
that…a plan, a starting point, something to work on, to fine tune.
Not like the socialists in power now who crafted a “plan” like
obamacare and said take this and like it. Like the community organizer
who feels he has the power to circumvent our laws and do what he sees
fit. All the socialists and libbers who want freebies and want someone
else to pay for them, hate the idea of the govt doing what it is supposed
to be there to do and not being corrupt. This admin is one of the most
corrupt in our history and since they have pushed this country to the
brink with crony capitalism and phoney stimulus plans, they have nothing
left to turn to except class warfare, fear mongering and lies. And the bleating
sheep scream for more. Yep. under Romney and Ryan, granny will die,
children will starve and the rich will make millions. You have got to
be kidding! These socialist clowns talk about the middle class, they could
care less and so doesn’t Obama. They talk about Romney taking women
back to the 50’s. And you believe this? Vote then for your marxist but
please don’t whine when your food stamps run out and no one can pay
for you anymore. I know for some of you, the word W O R K is not
in your vocabulary, but try it…it can be rewarding.
More hyperbolic propaganda. Same song, umpteenth verse, much louder and much worse …
I am a senior and it is insulting to me that my generation is characterized as only being concerned with Medicare & Social Security. To vote for one guy over another based solely on one or two issues is sad! I have had a good run in life, I would like to leave this country better than I found it for future generations. If that means giving up part of my COLA in future years so be it. As long as everyone has some skin in the game we should make the sacrifices that are needed.
This Radical Ryan, never did like a government program that helped the Sick or the Poor. Ryan is just another Multi Millionaire that wants to destroy and END Medicare and Medicaid and give the money to the Millionaires Club. This could be the End of any Old and Sick Americans. Romney destroys Obama Health Insurance while Ryan destroys Medicare and Medicaid.
This is the best republicans have? Those two idiots couldnt beat Steve Wonder in a dart throwing contest! Ugggghhhhhh, also on another note why doesn’t that blimp, which is our governor ever discuss the fact that Maine is the most overweight in New England and how much it cost the state for obesity related illnesses??? Have another hot dog Lepage
New meaning to R&R.
Two days after picking Paul Ryan, Mitt, the Windsock, Romney is sounding a different tune. Well, actually it’s still the Hokey-Pokey. Right hand in, right hand out, left hand in, left hand out… I’m sure you remember.
IT’s really what it’s all about !!
Two very rich men with only one goal: To strip us of Medicare, and destroy Reformed Health Care. Typical bloated self serving rich men with no concern for the workers, families, and students.
With a $174,000 salary, full quarters, food allowances, Ryan and others also have the best socialized medicine plan anywhere. We pay for it with our taxes, just like we contribute to Medicare, pay our insurances and get by. If we had Health Reform it’s communism. They have another name for their own program.
Ryan and Romney are the biggest enemies the workers of America ever faced. They will take everything away and give you a $40 dollar gift certificate to see your doctor.
Good old Mitt and Paul out to save the country and get it back from those who just work here. Ryan passed two bills in 20 years? Hard working Paul. What a farce. Hard working Mitt with five palatial estates, five Caddies, a dog on the roof, and his only desire to kill a bill he originated.
Wake up folks.
