BREWER, CARMEL and HERMON – Ann L. Thayer, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at a Bangor health care facility after a long illness. She was born March 26, 1928, in Franklin, the daughter of Maynard and Helen Hardison.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Kenneth H. Thayer of Brewer; sons, Frank A. and wife, Debra, of Hermon and Fred A. and wife, Vicky, of Carmel; daughter, Melinda A. Davis of Newport; grandchildren, MacKenzie and Patrick Estey, Mathew and April Goodine, Marcus and Lara Davis, Ron Meservey, Kimberly Mayhew, Kelly and Andrew Lauder; 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brother, Harry Hardison of Sullivan; brother-in-law, Charles Thayer of Hermon; sister-in-law, Patricia Hardison of Sullivan; niece, Virginia (Hanscom) Wilson of Connecticut; nephew, Rodney Hanscom of Florida; nephew, Michael Griffin of Sullivan; many more nieces and nephews; special friends, Iris Freeman, Nancy Spencer, Alice Reed, Gertrude Gallant and Pat Braily; and many others. She was predeceased by her daughter, Marlene A. Thayer; one grandchild, Carrie Ann Thayer; four sisters and one brother.
Ann spent most of her life raising children, including her granddaughter, MacKenzie, after the death of her youngest daughter, Marlene. Ann will be remembered for her very dry “Down East” sense of humor, her beautiful flowers and incredible cooking.
A gathering of friends and family to remember and honor Ann’s life will be held 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the home of her granddaughter, MacKenzie Estey, 272 Hampden Road, Carmel – the house behind the home Ann and Ken lived in for many years.
