WOOLWICH, Maine — Two hard-impact accidents on Friday hospitalized four people with minor injuries, according to Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Brett Strout, who said the victims are fortunate they weren’t hurt worse.
Jane Miller, 78, of Wellesley, Mass., was pulling onto Route 1 from the west end of George Wright Road about 2:40 p.m. when her 2004 Toyota Camry collided head-on with a 1994 GMC pickup being driven by Lester Morse Jr., 49, of Dresden. Both drivers were taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick and both vehicles received “significant front-end damage,” said Strout.
Sagadahoc County Deputy Al Huntington was assisted at the scene, which disrupted traffic on Route 1, by Woolwich fire and emergency medical services and Northeast Ambulance Service.
No charges are expected as a result of the accident.
About two hours later in West Bath, police were called to the scene of a single-car accident involving a new driver. Strout said MacKenzie Hawkes, 16, of Phippsburg told police that she was reaching for something inside the car when she lost control of her vehicle on Berrys Mill Road and hit a utility pole. Both airbags in the vehicle deployed on impact. Hawkes and a 17-year-old passenger were taken to Mid Coast Hospital with minor injuries.
Berrys Mill Road was closed down while rescue workers cleaned up debris. Strout said the investigation into that accident continues.

Why not?
Either Mr. Morse was driving on the wrong side of the road (passing improperly?) or, more likely, Ms. Miller failed to yield the right of way as she entered Route 1 from the side road.
Either way, one of these drivers is at fault and deserves a citation.

We call these “hard impact crashes” now?
Are we trying to be politically correct?
I was thinking exactly the same thing ……………………..
Sounds like a meteorite movie.
