MEDFORD, Mass. — A Portland-to-Boston Amtrak train has struck a car just outside Boston, but authorities say there were no serious injuries.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with what were described as “superficial” injuries after the collision at about 8 a.m. Thursday in Medford.

The car sustained heavy damage.

Police say the 69-year-old New Hampshire resident will be cited for driving around the railroad crossing gate. His name was not released.

There were more than 60 passengers and crew on the Downeaster train, but no one on board was hurt.

The train resumed its journey at about 9:15 a.m.

  1. Well that is one lucky guy to walk away from a train wreck.  Intelligence appears to be lacking though.

  2. When will people learn that they cannot beat the train? In general, I think a simple rule should suffice. Never argue with a vehicle larger than yours.

    1. You wouldn’t think that they would have to put warnings on the business end of lawn mowers but they do…people r dum.

    2.  They’ll play chicken with a big rig at the end of an on ramp.  I’m really amazed when a motorcycle will do it.  It’s almost always a crotch rocket – usually those on the Harleys are pretty good.
