ARGYLE – John B. “Jack” Kennedy Sr., 85, went home to be with the Lord, Aug. 16, 2012. He was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Argyle, to Ernest D. and Ethel M. (Ballard) Kennedy.
Jack married the love of his life, Arlene (Avery), July 9, 1955. During their 57 years together they raised their three children, Gerrie, Johnny and Danny, in the house that they built together from cutting the trees, hauling the logs to the sawmill, to stuffing the walls with insulation, together they built a home that was filled with love and beautiful memories. Jack worked for several years, with his father, in the logging business, but went on to work in the construction business as a cement finisher until he retired. He was honored as a life member for 50 consecutive years to International Union of Brick Layers and Allied Craftsmen, Local No. 3. Jack enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, but mostly he enjoyed just being surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; daughter, Gerrie Moriarty and husband, Michael, of Malta, N.Y.; sons, John B. Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Alton and Dan Kennedy of Portland; grandson, Craig Moriarty and wife, Jillian; along with three great-grandsons, Maxwell, Hayden and Jack Ryan – his namesake – Moriarty of Minnetonka, Minn.; grandsons, Brian Moriarty of Orange City, Iowa, Sean Moriarty of Malta, N.Y., and Jamie Kennedy and wife, Kim, of Alton; sisters, Liona Speed of Brownville, Ethel Storman, Dorothy McLaughlin and Eunice Coughlin, all of Old Town; special sisters-in-law, Eva Kennedy and Ruth Kennedy; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Harrison, Aaron, Earnest Jr., James, Thomas and Sterling; and sisters, Pearl and Virginia. The family extends special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff for the loving care they provide at Gosnell Home.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22. Interment will be at Hoyt Brook Cemetery, Argyle. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for refreshments after the interment at Kennedy-DuDevoir Family Homestead, Southgate Road, Argyle.
