BOWDOINHAM, Maine — Three juveniles have been given summonses for burglary and theft in connection with a break-in at Bowdoinham Country Store last month in which cash and $1,200 worth of cigarettes were stolen.
Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Brett Strout said Wednesday that a parent who found cigarettes in her son’s possession notified police and a subsequent investigation revealed that a 15-year-old and two 13-year-old males from Bowdoinham reportedly were involved in the July 26 burglary.
The 15-year-old is charged with two counts of burglary and theft because he told investigators he had previously burglarized the store on Route 24 on July 22. The two 13-year-olds each are charged with single counts of burglary and theft, said Strout.
In addition to the approximately $1,200 in cigarettes, the youths allegedly made off with about $270 in cash. Most of the cash and cigarettes have been returned to the store, said Strout.
The burglary was reported by a store clerk at about 6 a.m. July 27. Strout said the thieves broke in through the back of the building.

$1,200 worth of smokes? So like two packs?
That was my thought. At first I thought wow that’s a lot of smokes, but when I did the math…
At $8 a pack, 75 cartons.
10 packs to a carton @ $8 per pack= $80 per cartonx75 cartons=$6,000. ” No Brands” are about $60 a carton so about 20 cartons for $1200.
Thanks. My obvious blunder was thinking 20 to a carton and using a calculator instead of the old bean! Stupid, since I’m a smoker…. :)
