He was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, Husson College and Williams School of Banking. Roger was a man who openly shared his love for the Lord with his friends. He was a lifelong banker and fisherman, although he preferred fishing. He began his banking career in Presque Isle as a commercial loan officer with Northern National Bank and then in Mars Hill as a branch manager. Throughout the years as mergers took place and names changed he worked for Portland Savings Bank, People’s Bank, Casco Northern Bank and the Bank of Boston, in Caribou, Presque Isle, Bangor and Portland branches. He finished his career with Coastal Bank, which is now Norway Savings Bank. His past affiliations include a trustee of Maine Kidney Foundation, SCORE, United Way, Boy Scouts of America, Dollars for Scholars, Maine Planning Commission and a member and past treasurer of Stroudwater Baptist Church, Portland, and a current member of Calvary Baptist Church, Clearwater, Fla., and a board member of Stonehedge on the Hill, Tarpon Springs, Fla. Although he was proud of his working career, his favorite times were spent at East Grand Lake at the family camp fishing and spending time with his family. He loved spending time in his boat, trolling the lake by five islands salmon fishing. Roger also enjoyed his yearly men’s hunting and fishing trip at East Grand Lake. In recent years he enjoyed his time in Florida and his weekly card games with friends he had made there.
Roger is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Dianna (Sawyer); his children and their spouses, Doug and Dr. Josette Hunter of Caribou, Sharon and Erick Richards of Bend, Ore., Sherri and Ron Richards of Windham and Debbie Ginn of Middleboro, Mass. He is also survived by his brother, Larry and his wife, Mary Hunter, of Presque Isle; his grandchildren, David and Caleb Hunter of Caribou, Quinn and Madeline Richards of Bend, Ore., Sara and Miranda Richards of Windham; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Hottinger. He will also be greatly missed by his cousins, an aunt, nieces, nephews and their spouses. In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his sister, Yvonne Hottinger.
