BANGOR, Maine — Even those who never met Nicolle Lugdon would have gotten a solid sense of the kind of woman she was during a vigil in her memory at Cascade Park.
She loved her music — namely rap and hip-hop. She loved to dance. She was a proud mother, a good friend to many and made a strong impression on people, some of them far outside of her age range.
Lugdon, 24, of Eddington was one of three people who died earlier this month in what police say was a triple homicide.
The three homicide victims — Lugdon; Daniel T. Borders, 26, of Hermon; and Lucas A. Tuscano, 28, of Bradford — were found burned beyond recognition inside a white Pontiac with Rhode Island plates that was discovered on fire early on Aug. 13.
Their killer has yet to be arrested.
On Friday night, nearly 75 friends and family members gathered to remember Lugdon during a vigil that featured a slideshow set to the kind of music she loved most. After the sun set, the mourners released dozens of helium-filled balloons and watched quietly as they drifted up into the star-filled sky.
Joey Landry, Lugdon’s 18-year-old cousin, was among the family members who turned up.
Landry smiled as he remembered hunting bullfrogs with Lugdon when the two were kids. He said someone in the Levant neighborhood he lived in when he was 6 years old organized a contest offering a $20 prize for the biggest specimen and that he and his cousin teamed up and won.
“She’s the only family I ever met on my dad’s side,” he said. “We were really close as children,” he said. “Something happened when she was little and I hadn’t seen her for years but in the past two years we met back up. We were hanging out pretty much every day for a while until recently.”
“I’m just here to pay my respect, you know what I mean?” he said.
“She was a good mother, she was a good friend she was a very good girl,” said a friend who declined to provide her name.
“What happened to her is a terrible tragedy,” added Christen Bouchard, whose sister was one of Lugdon’s close friends.
Jay Fader, a local rapper, agreed.
“It’s just really messed up what happened to her,” Fader said, adding that another tribute for Lugdon is planned for next week. This year’s edition of Rap Phest, set for 7 p.m. Friday at the TimeOut Restaurant and Event Center in Brewer, will be dedicated in her memory.
Several of the people who attended the vigil, including the event’s organizer, declined to be interviewed Friday night, saying they were displeased about some of the things from her past reported by the media after Lugdon’s death.
Former boyfriend Aaron Davis was one of those who was upset about how she has been portrayed by the media. Despite that, he did share his feelings about Lugdon, who he last saw only days before her death.
“She’s amazing. She’s contagious. She makes everybody want to know her,” Davis said. “She smiles, the whole room lights up. I can’t imagine anybody ever wanting to hurt her. She was special,” he said.
“Tonight, we’re gonna celebrate,” he said as the multimedia presentation began. “I don’t wanna hear anybody crying. Do it real good for Nikki.”
While the vast majority of those who attended were in Lugdon’s age range, her friendships apparently spanned generations.
Former City Councilor Hal Wheeler, who met her through her job at Staples, was among those who came by to pay their respects.
“The first time we spoke I could tell this was an extraordinary young woman,” Wheeler said. “While she never got into any deep details of her life I knew that she had lived a lot, more than many people her age.”
“Although I was old enough to be her grandfather, I never felt there was any gulf of age or generation between us. She had the ability to be just the right person — the person you wanted her to be or the person you needed her to be — without losing her own identity,” Wheeler said.
“I’ve been astonished at how many people in the community that are of a considerably older age knew her, met her or knew of her. She had an enormous impact on people [because of] the power and depth of her personality.”

Just heart breaking.
I hope the murderer is experiencing some waterboarding unless the cartel got to him first.(he did leave a paper trail.)
Rest in peace Nikki
I find it infuriating that we all have to watch a commercial before this video. I don’t feel like it is in good taste. Just saying.
My point is, you MUTT, is that we are bombarded with advertising all of the time. There’s plenty of it on this site and on tv in general. They could have just let that 30 seconds go by with grace and not have attempted to make a buck off of three people’s deaths. They were capable of it. They didn’t do it. I don’t expect the reporter to starve, and I’d happily watch any of their stupid ads with any other video.
Just how exactly do you think you get watch the video for free? Do you think the reporter does this for free? Advertising pays for it! And if it bugs you so much go see it on the other papers website. Oh wait there isn’t one So instead of whining try being thankful you have such a great news company in your backyard!
This isn’t YouTube…and if it were, you’d probably still have to watch an ad.
Gone too soon. How nice people came out to honor her life.
RIP Nikki and my prayers go out to all her family and friends
SSaid it before I really don’t expect this to be solved is this guy they looking for even really who they said it was come on know one knows that could be a total fiction character who uses his girlfriends car or rents a car in their name to do this ? The video is very poor evidence is slim
Why hasn’t an arrest been made yet??
Very nice comments from Mr. Wheeler and the others, and nice that they all showed to pay their respects. I have still yet to read anything but praise for the person Nicolle was from those that actually knew her.
Maybe I am missing something, but I have not read anything yet that elevates Nicolle to hero status. However, whatever her shortcomings, like many of us, she had her good points and that is what her friends are choosing to remember. Regardless of how she lived, does anyone deserve to die the way she and the other 2 did?
Very well put. Regardless of her past, present or future, there is no way she or the others in the car deserved to die the way they did.
Two users two dealers two bad four real
And how do you know this???
You seem to know an awful lot about this. Might want to call police…or turn yourself in.
everyone draws conclusions about people when they post facts on here…might as well say that it was cocaine related like everyone already knows.
phantom2driver, if you have info send it to jackjonesxxx@yahoo.com.
You don’t deny any facts, but choose personal attacks?
So it was ok for them to personally attack someone but not for someone to personally attack them back?
Just pointing out how biased one can be.
Sorry to say but this is not how HA operates. I dont think the driver would leave such a paper trail.
It could because of debt,2009 narc or wire buy gone bad .Whats the difference. Highly doubt HA involvement.
Didn’t know this girl. Know her (life) story from other sources. Such a
waste & others are living the same story every damn day. The drugs &
associated criminal activity from the drugs is having a terrible impact in
Bangor especially, & the outlying communities as well. Revolving door
“justice system,” enablers w/in various fed, state,
& local HHS agencies, a cycle of dysfunction & dependency, no work ethic
or morals from the perps, no long term consequences for them, & absolutely no solution to the problem add up to
a bad situation that is definitely going to get much worse. For those who
believe in NIMBY, get this -> it already IS in your back yard.
From the rumors that i have heard, you are right about the shot to the back of the head, but that is where your being right ends. HA doesnt have a thing to do with this, and I certainly wouldnt be blaming those good ole boys for something they didnt do. The people that ARE responsible for this, i am sure are already well known to the BPD, they are just trying to find out which one was responsible for it, not an easy task out of a group, and they probably aint all that thrilled about messing with them in the first place.. I have a pretty bad suspicion this is just gonna go down as a drug deal gone bad and nobody is gonna get brought in on this one.
If BPD does in fact make the HA connection, as I suspect they already have, I seriously doubt they will ever make it public.
If they knew who it was they either:
A. Would bring them to justice by now
B. Its someone they know, but may be involved with a federal, state or other large investigation
C. The person who did it is out of state hiding or possibly even dead.
I honestly think what happened is either of 2 things:
1. This was as you said a drug deal gone bad. Perhaps the person who is from Mass who came to pick up the three was there to collect a debt to himself, and when not given the money they were shot. And well you know the rest of the story.
2. THIS is what I think happened: Its part of a larger conspiracy with involvement from gangs out of state that are trafficking hardcore drugs (pills, cocaine, meth, crack, etc.) who either were making a deal and things went awry or in my position one or two of the three killed owed serious money to their “connection” to the gang.
I have to agree with you. Irregardless of rumors, this doesn’t really look or feel like HA. Looking at this as objectively as possible, without passing judgement on the rumored players, BPD, or the victims, I don’t think local law enforcement is going to be equipped to bring this to closure by themselves. In my opinion, that is the biggest dilemma in all this. If it isn’t dealt with, the players and poison eradicated from our area, there are going to be more deaths. Conversely, if local law enforcement tries to deal with it (notice I say tries) there is going to be collateral damage.
I’ve seen some of your other posts and I think you and I share similar perspectives in terms of the supply and demand problems of this area. This is a no win situation for Bangor unless the demand end is proactively addressed.
To the people commenting on who committed these murders and why- go find somewhere else to post. This article is about paying respect to Nicole and that’s it. Grow up, and go take your gossip somewhere else.
Sounds like she was a nice person who made a few bad choices along the way. A lot of us have made bad choices in our youth , never thinking that we could be killed for it. Sorry to the families for there loss. I hope they catch the coward.

I doubt it was hells angels…it was probably worcester related
Not sure what is more annoying, your comment or the fact that several other people agree enough to make it the “best rating”…
I guess they just enjoy irony.
you need to put an end to the lolipop guild gang that puts those tags all around bangor…
So sad. Go with God Nikki.
This is just your opinion. Hint (your opinion)I have read more positive than negative.( I dont believe they are lies.)There is no doubt she had a checkered past.Came from a family of hard knocks. Really doesnt matter to me if she worked or was on public assistance. Her boss at the gathering speaks for it self. If you knew her like you said… You would most likely have something postive to say about her and could or should have been an encouragement to her. So, perhaps the next time you “know someone” be kind to your neighbor and maybe you could make a difference. When your funeral comes as it will someday …hopefully people “you know” will say something positive about you.
It’s nice that they did the vigil, don’t get me wrong…but wasn’t there an article in the BDN a few days ago or so that the Bangor PD asked people not do this vigil because the family didn’t want it? Considering pictures of the kid leaked out that they had not given permission to be posted? Call me crazy, but I respect the family’s wishes…So sad that this happened and hope justice is found.
You don’t know the whole story apparently her adoptive family was in favor of it she had near nothing to do with her bio family and had a terrible bio life growing up
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks.
Rest in peace Nikki you will be missed, and for those people on here commenting nasty things about her stop it. She does not deserve it.
