PARIS, Maine — A Dixfield man charged with stabbing his brother was released Friday on personal recognizance bail.

Jacob C. Hall, 20, of Averill Hill Road, was arrested Wednesday evening after his brother reported that Jacob, unprovoked, had stabbed him in the back with a knife.

Jacob was arrested on a charge of elevated aggravated assault, a Class A offense that carries a sentence of up to 30 years.

According to a police report by Dixfield Officer Eric Bernier, a man stopped at the Dixfield Police Station to report that he’d been stabbed. He said he wasn’t badly hurt, and said he and Jacob weren’t fighting when Jacob stabbed him.

Bernier found Hall and spoke to him about the stabbing. Hall admitted to stabbing his brother, and said he didn’t know why he did it. He told Bernier he put the knife in the skimmer of his swimming pool.

After recovering the knife, Bernier arrested Hall on a charge of elevated aggravated assault. The brother was sent to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Hall was released Friday afternoon, and is due to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Nov. 6.

  1. Elevated and aggravated, and he doesn’t know why he did it. I  hope there’s a good reason why he was told ‘just come to court in a couple months’ without so much as a dangerousness hearing first.

  2. Hmmm.  Total “stab in the dark” (pun intended), but 20 is the textbook age for schizophrenia to make an appearance…

  3. gotta be something like that why stab your brother for no reason if left without some sort of help he will become another wack job that kills someone and us taxpayers will get to foot the bill  what  is wrong with the people today ? something in the water?

  4. The young man should have been evaluated before he was released, in my humble opinion. If he cannot even say why he stabbed his brother in the back, he is a risk to others. He certainly is a risk to his own brother.

  5. Elevated Aggravated Assault, which is a Class A crime with an up to 30 year sentence potential and this punk is released on personal recognizance is unbelievable!
