PORTLAND, Maine — Police are investigating after a Portland woman was struck and killed outside her home by a car that then left the scene.
Authorities say 61-year-old Bonnie Bachelder was struck at about 1 a.m. Sunday.
The driver of the car that struck her drove away, but then turned himself into police about 90 minutes later. The 27-year-old Portland man has not been charged.
Police say the driver was given a blood-alcohol test after he turned himself in, which is routine in all fatalities involving cars. Results won’t be known for at least two weeks.
The car has been impounded pending the outcome of the investigation.

How and why? What was she doing at 1am in her driveway? And how the hell can you just drive away?? Now I am thinking that his blood alcohol level must be down if he turned himself in 90 mins later so that may have something to do with it, maybe not though as we do not know if he was even actually drinking. I feel for this family and may she RIP
I will defend his actions or anything because i do not know him nor do i care too. But his blood alchohol level would still be the same 90 minutes later. Takes 5 to 6 hours to start getting better, and most likely even charges are not pending now, they most likely will be charges
Blood Alchohol goes down 25 points an hour when you stop drinking. So If he were just over the legal limit, he could be under the legal limit in as little as 30 mins. Could make all the difference in the world in a conviction. I worked many years in the ER’s. and many hours waiting for a patient’s Blood alchohol level to come down to discharge. In Maine, it has to be below 100. so a person with a BAL of 260, would have to wait about 5 hours to “clear”, someone with a BAL of 160 ( legally drunk)…. would have to wait only about 1 hour. What about leaving the scene? Why was he not charged with that?
Thanks Maine_Girl35!
I knew a woman of that name and would be of approx that age in the County years ago.
No matter if it’s her or not, it’s still sad. My sympathy to the family.
How tragic. Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ms Bachelder. May you find peace and comfort in each other.
The car killed this woman?? It certainly seems that way the car is behind bars and the driver that admits to leaving the scene of an accident with bodily harm is free and uncharged.
I also give my sincere condolences to the families of the victim.
No charges yet filed? You hit and kill a person and drive away without even trying to help? Maine is an armpit.
Google Amy Senser. `Maine is not an armpit as some suggest. it is all over the country…
