PORTLAND, Maine — A man is facing a felony robbery charge after snatching a woman’s purse in the Old Port on Monday, according to police.

A 72-year-old woman had just made a transaction at a Commercial Street bank when Sebastian Agrell, 19, of Portland started to follow her, Lt. Scott Pelletier said.

Agrell snuck up behind the victim and grabbed her purse, which contained an undisclosed amount of money, a driver’s license, a bank card and cellphone, Pelletier said.

When Agrell took the purse, the woman nearly fell to the ground, according to Pelletier. The woman screamed for help, and witnesses gave chase.

One man was able to corner Agrell in a Market Street alley until officers arrived. Agrell was arrested and booked on a Class A charge of robbery. He remains at the Cumberland County Jail, and faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.

The woman was not injured in the incident.

  1. 40 years for a purse snatch and sex offenders get a couple years with some house arrest….. broken system.

  2. In the Press Herald, there is a picture of a drunk driver who has not yet been found guilty however there were plenty of witnesses.  Perhaps this was sufficient enough to post a picture.  I wish they would post a picture of this boy so we can share our thoughts with him about his cowardice.

  3. The sentence they are saying he might serve certainly won’t be the one he does serve.  I feel like the whole loss of a finger for a theft charge would make stealing seem a lot less desirable crime to commit.  The constitution protects losers like this from cruel and unusual punishment, but hey, 0 pretty well used his Bic cigarette lighter on the constitution with the whole Obamacare thing, and all the other stuff he didn’t like, why not abolish that too?
