Xavier Lewis’ football transition from Bangor High School to defending Pine Tree Conference Class A champion Lawrence of Fairfield is going smoothly, according to Lawrence coach John Hersom.

“He’s very similar to a lot of our other players,” said Hersom of Lewis, a junior who transferred to Lawrence over the summer. “He’s hard-working, quite quiet and unassuming, someone who just goes about his work.”

Lewis saw significant playing time as a sophomore at Bangor last fall, both as a defensive back and as a wide receiver and wing back on offense. He was expected to start both ways for the Rams this fall, but now he’s likely to play a similar role for the Bulldogs.

“We’re pleased to have him here,” said Hersom, whose team opens its regular season Friday night at Edward Little of Auburn. “He’s blended in quite well.”

Bangor and Lawrence meet during Week 2 of the regular season on Sept. 7 at Keyes Field in Fairfield.
