HAMPDEN, Maine — A Bangor-area transient broke into a residence on Main Road South last week and threatened the residents with a knife, Hampden Police Chief Joe Rogers said Thursday.

Bobby-Lee L. Roddy, 21, allegedly forced his way into the house just before midnight Aug. 21 and now is facing three felony charges, including burglary, that could send him to prison for up to 10 years if convicted.

“For whatever reason he confronted the people and then confronted them with a knife,” Rogers said.

Roddy, who police believed may have been using drugs, did not ask for money or drugs during the break-in and did not steal anything, the police chief said.

He was standing outside bleeding when police arrived.

“He was cut when he broke the glass” to get inside, Rogers said.

The couple who live at the house “know him, but not well,” the police chief said.

Roddy was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, and upon his release, around 3 a.m. Aug. 22, he was charged with Class B burglary, Class C criminal threatening and Class C aggravated criminal trespassing. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there Thursday. (Nok-Noi-Ricker, BDN)

  1. How many dang transients live in Bangor? And if they are “transients” how can they live in the “Bangor area”. Why not just call these guys criminals or miscreants? I haven’t lived in the area for thirty years but this isn’t the Bangor area I knew.

  2. PUBLIC NOTICE:  my son-in-law and daughter live in Hampden.  Please be aware that anyone forcing their way into their house without a proper invitation will wind up dead, period.

They are both ex-military, well-trained, armed and will not hesitate to shoot to kill anyone that makes an illegal entry into their home.  Be assured you will never, ever get to tell your side of the story.  Your drug habit is not worth the burglary, period.

With the rise in drug crime burglary in Hampden I would be willing to bet others are similarly situated.  Are you willing to bet your life?

    1. Nice firm statement, but I doubt the transients are reading this.  You could attach a bull horn to your car or buy a “Mr. Microphone” on ebay and drive around town.

      1. True.  But I feel better having made the pronouncement.  I’m thinking mass twitter or FB post.

    2. Shhhhhh….you’re spooking the parasites.
How are the rest of us supposed to get a shot?
Does it get any better than breaking in with a knife?

    3. Yippee Skippee for your daughter and son in law…….having lived in Hampden for 45 years I know your pronouncement  makes me feel better…just make sure whoever they shoot falls in the window and not out………pffffffffffffffft

  3. This was at my house and next door. He was not outside when they arrived, he was inside my house asking to call his mommy.  He is a loser and deserves to go to jail to grow up alittle.
