HARMONY, Maine — A Canadian woman was taken by helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor early Thursday afternoon after the motorcycle she was riding on crashed.
Lynn Bell, 60, was riding as a passenger on a 1997 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Ricklan Bell, 67, along Athens Road at about 1:08 p.m. Thursday, Somerset County Sheriff’s Department Detective Lt. Carl E. Gottardi II said in a statement. Both Bells are from the Canadian province of Alberta.
Ricklan Bell was following another motorcycle when he lost control after applying his brakes, causing the motorcycle to go down on it side, said Gottardi.
“At the time of the accident, the female passenger on the motorcycle sustained possible internal injuries,” he said.
Lynn Bell was taken to EMMC by LifeFlight helicopter. Gottardi did not indicate if Ricklan Bell was injured. Both occupants were wearing helmets and riding gear. The motorcycle had minor damage.
A message left at EMMC regarding the condition of Lynn Bell was not yet immediately returned.
Cpl. Michael Ross investigated the accident. Harmony Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.

LOUD PIPES SAVES LIVES
if loud pipes were legal, the motorcyclist would have been ‘letting his pipes’ go as he drove, thus
giving him better control of his bike
todays tip: if a motorcyclist comes up behind your vehicle, obviously your going to slow. just
pull over to the side of the road, and let the motorcyclist go by ahead of you, then you can get back on the road
Or the motorcycle is going too fast…
were YOU there? it was ANNACIDENT!
i bet the road was bad, its maine dot’s fault. if they fix the
roads us bikers would not have annacidents
annacidents?
The State should remove all impediments to your carefree riding to prevent you from braking improperly and having an accident.
Sorry, I should have been more clear. My comment about the motorcycle going too fast was referring to the comment about a motorcyclist coming up behind a car that the car is going too slow.
This specific mishap is another example of a preventable outcome if proper braking actions were executed. This is not an accident.
LOUD LIVES SAVES PIPES
Our planet does not have quiet or loud operated motorcycles, we have legal or illegally operated motorcycles. The criminals operating illegally configured motorcycles are more likely to be involved in crashes. Acem M.A.I.D.S. and HURT Report research conclusions.
LOUDLY SPREAD THE WORD, LEGAL PIPES WITH LEGAL BIKE OPERATORS, SAVE LIVES.
Helmets – mandatory = Save Lives! Wear helmets motorcyclists .
Loud pipes, Do-Rags, leather vests, and tattoes save lives!
Leather chaps and no helmets results in no road-rash on your legs, just your head.
Only a fool thinks it’s cool to ride without a helmet.
Inevitable crash. That’s common especially if you are not careful when riding in a motorcycle. Hope that they’re okay.
Inevitable? You don’t crash by using your brakes, you crash when you hit something. He didn’t hit anything so he must have over-reacted to something and used his brakes improperly. Experienced riders don’t crash from using the brakes. I hope the lady heals up soon.
