BANGOR, Maine — A local woman riding a small motorized scooter on the Penobscot Bridge Saturday afternoon lost control and crashed, Bangor police Officer Jason Stuart said Sunday.
“There was no collision,” he said. “She claims she hit a bump.”
When she hit the bump the scooter’s trunk snapped off.
“She turned to see what happened and subsequently lost control of the vehicle,” Stuart said. “Injuries are considered to be minor.”
The woman was riding a Taotao scooter and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. She was not wearing a helmet and suffered road rash on both of her legs, the officer said.
The crash occurred at about 1:45 p.m. and closed the bridge for a short amount of time as firefighters and paramedics tended to the woman and police officers conducted interviews with witnesses. The bridge reopened to traffic within 20 minutes.

Maybe there was too much junk in the trunk. Swift recovery.
I wonder if Bangor’s new “fire boat” was put into action?
Glad she’s going to be OK!! Recommend checking out the Kymco or Honda scooter lineup, you will see a big improvement over the Chinese scooter! SCOOT ON!
Some Kymco’s are now Chinese, so beware. We have two Yamaha scooters. They are excellent bikes.
And again…..it was NOT A MOPED!
I ride a bicycle over that bridge on occasion and I can vouch for those bumps, the joints are in a sad state of decay for such a young structure. One of many examples of poor road construction around here. South Main Street in Brewer is a piece of work, although that may be more a design issue. Civil engineers who can’t figure out the path of water aren’t worth much to society
Engineers are paid to make mistakes, then are paid to fix them.
We have one of the best infrastructures in the world. Surpassed only by “entitlement” in this country.
I’m glad to read her injuries aren’t severe. I guess a helmet wouldn’t have spared her legs the road rash.
Ouch !!! Glad your OK
looks like one of the mopeds the Hands of Hope place next to K-Mart had for sale…glad I didn’t buy one
I bet I know where you might be able to pick up a slightly scratched one (minus trunk) on the cheap if you’re willing to reconsider.
Darn those potholes. At this rate we will have to get those potholes licensed for jumping into the path of these scooters!
“There was no collision,”
There was no quotes in the original article and stated it was hit so was the “collision” that was reported on the first time an assumption without verifying facts first??
