BANGOR, Maine — A wanted Old Town man was arrested last week after Bangor police Officer Steve Pelletier noticed him trying to conceal something and the man then refused to empty his pockets, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.

Michael Tardiff, 52, who was wanted on two outstanding warrants, was stopped by Pelletier at around 2 p.m. Aug. 30 on Essex Street. When asked to empty his pockets, “he was selective; he only pulled out a few things,” Edwards said.

Pelletier did a more thorough search and found a baggie in Tardiff’s pocket that contained cocaine, the sergeant said. Tardiff was arrested for Class B unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, as well as violation of his bail conditions and for the two warrants. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail.

Tardiff was charged with domestic violence criminal threatening for allegedly threatening his adult son with a metal object in April while living at the Regency Trailer Park in Old Town. At the end of May, he was indicted by the Penobscot County grand jury on two counts of criminal threatening, according to Bangor Daily News archives. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
