BREWER, Maine — A Carmel teenager tried to pay his way into a Brewer football game and buy pizza with counterfeit $20 bills Saturday night and was arrested for aggravated forgery, Brewer police Sgt. Anthony Pinette said Thursday.

Jonathan Sanipas, 18, went to the Friday night football game between the Brewer Witches and the Mt. Blue Cougars from Farmington with the fake money, the sergeant said.

“He tried to pay his entrance fee with it,” said Pinette. “He was told his bill was not authentic and told to leave.”

The $20 bill Sanipas attempted to use was obviously fake, the sergeant said.

“It looked like something he had photocopied,” Pinette said. “It was printed on cloth paper, but it just didn’t feel right. You could tell immediately.”

Just after midnight, Sanipas illegally used the fake money when he ordered food from Domino’s Pizza and the delivery driver “was paid with two counterfeit $20 bills,” the sergeant said.

Officer Roger Hershey and Cpl. Steve Boyd went to the State Street residence where the pizza was delivered and found Sanipas intoxicated.

He allegedly admitted to using the fake money.

“He said he got them from a friend but refused to tell the officers who,” Pinette said.

Sanipas was arrested and charged with Class B aggravated forgery as well as possession of alcohol by a minor through consumption. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and later released, a jail official said.

The teenager could spend up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the felony forgery charge.

  1. well after the  the secret service gets involved and some zero tolerance federal judge sentences this kid he could be in his 30s by the time he gets out of prison. If they charge him with counterfeiting that is…. which they might if he doesn’t roll on his friend if there is one.

as an aside this kid printed $40 bucks that we know of… maybe a whole sheet so like 6 $20.00 bills for a grand total of $120.00 dollars.

On the other hand Ben Bernake and the federal reserve have created $1.5 trillion between 2007-2011 between qe1 and qe2? And they are hailed as saviors.

    1. Although you are correct if they don’t do anything to this kid then he will think he can get away with anything.  Personal responsibility is gone in this country and things like this prove it!

  2. well lets just hope this young man learns his lesson and gets back on the right road the one he is on leads to prison for a long long time  printing fake cash is not a very wise thing to do
