BIDDEFORD, Maine — The University of New England field hockey team scored four times in the final 20 minutes Wednesday to break open a tie game for a 6-2 nonconference victory over Husson University of Bangor.
Hayley LaPointe scored two goals for the Nor’easters (1-1), who got a goal and an assist from Hannah Tavella. Hannah Warren, Emily Koehler and Erin Bibber tallied a goal apiece and Kaitlyn Warren made three saves.
Sabrina Vaillancourt scored both goals for Husson (2-1), while Melissa Souza provided an assist. Maicee Gustin made 13 saves.

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Michael Daniel scored the only goal of the match in the 77th minute to lead the University of Southern Maine of Gorham to a 1-0 win over the University of New England.
The victory was the first of the young season for the Huskies (1-2), who topped UNE for the first time since 2008. The Nor’easters dropped their second straight decision to fall to 1-2.
Kevin Diegnan assisted on Daniel’s goal for USM,w hich got six saves from Jeremy Turner.
Aidan McParland notched three saves for UNE.
Women’s soccer
UNE 1, Husson 0
BIDDEFORD, Maine — Senior Nicole Faircloth converted a penalty kick in the 13th minute for the game’s only goal, as the University of New England edged Husson University 1-0 in college women’s soccer action.
The Eagles (0-3) were unable to equalize as the Nor’Easters (1-2) had an edge of 18-8 in shots and 7-1 in corner kicks.
Gina Iannazzi stopped seven shots to register her first career shutout, while Husson’s Jess Poulin had six saves.
