SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A Norridgewock man has been arrested by the Skowhegan Police Department for the third time in the last month.

Larry Hartsgrove, 53, was arrested on Thursday night after being found drinking in public for the second time in less than four hours, said Skowhegan Police Deputy Chief Dale Lancaster on Friday.

Officer Joshua King was on a routine patrol of Mt. Pleasant Ave at 6:51 p.m. Thursday, when he spotted a male and a female in the bushes, said Lancaster.

The male was “identified as Hartsgrove, and he had a 40-ounce beer bottle,” said Lancaster. “[The officer] asked him to dump out the beer and warned him that if he drank in public again, he’d be arrested.”

King was patrolling the same area at 10:28 p.m., when he saw Hartsgrove sitting in the same spot, said Lancaster.

“When [King] approached him, he was lying down, pretending that he was passed out,” Lancaster said. “Hartsgrove was holding an open can of beer.”

King poured out the remaining beer in the can. He arrested Hartsgrove and charged him with drinking in public, a misdemeanor offense.

“Law stipulates that you have to be warned first if there is no signage against it,” said Lancaster of a drinking-in-public charge.

Hartsgrove was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. When he was medically cleared, he was taken to Somerset County Jail in Madison, said Lancaster.

Hartsgrove was arrested on another drinking in public charge on Aug. 9 in Skowhegan. On Aug. 30, Hartsgrove was arrested in Skowhegan for criminal trespass.

“It is unfortunate, but we interact with him on a regular basis,” said Lancaster.

  1. More than half of all troublemakers in Skowhegam; the drunks, the bums, the vandals, the shoplifters, the losers still-living-at-home loud exhaust drivers, the drug dealers, etc,…more than half of all troublemakers in Skowhegan are from the  surrounding towns. Such as from Norridwock, CORNVILLE,Cannan, Solon,Madison.

    1. Well, skowheganresident…at least he is a “resident” of Norridgewock. he has a home.    If this had happened in Bangor his address would’ve been listed as “transient”!!

  2. Sad to think that a mans hopes and dreams are gone forever. There is nothing left to life for this poor soul. God Bless him.
