PARIS, Maine — A Rumford man pleaded guilty Thursday to attacking and sexually abusing a woman.
Peter Grasruck, 36, pleaded guilty to domestic violence assault and unlawful sexual contact in Oxford County Superior Court. Charges of attempted gross sexual assault and domestic violence criminal threatening were dropped in exchange for the plea, and the unlawful sexual contact charge was added.
Grasruck received a one-year deferred disposition, meaning that if he doesn’t violate his conditions for a year, all charges will be dismissed and he will be allowed to plead to a single count of disorderly conduct with a $500 fine.
The incident occurred on Feb. 12. According to police, a police officer reported a woman standing on his porch saying she had been assaulted. The woman was transported to the hospital by Med-Care ambulance.
Grasruck is not allowed to use or possess alcohol or illegal drugs, and will be subject to random searches. He was ordered to undergo counseling for substance abuse and anger management.

Either he’s a sex offender or he’s not. If he is, dismissing charges that would require him to register is definitely not right. If he’s not, those charges should have been dismissed in the first place.

Over a million Americans incarcerated, many for non-violent crimes, and this man gets “deferred disposition?” Where are the advocates for murdered and maimed victims of domestic violence?
