BANGOR, Maine — It has been a month since the horrific triple homicide that left three people in their 20s burned beyond recognition inside a car that was left ablaze, and investigators are now saying the case may have something to do with drugs.

Bangor police continue to search for the killer or killers and have asked the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency for assistance, Bangor police Detective Sgt. Paul Kenison said Tuesday.

“It’s a complex and very involved investigation,” he said. “We’ve been working with a lot of different agencies — they are one of them.”

Kenison would not say what the MDEA is doing to assist in the homicide investigation and he directed all questions to the drug agency’s division commander for northern Maine, who also declined to discuss the case.

No arrests have been made in the triple homicide and investigators are still unwilling to say if they have identified a person or persons of interest, Kenison said.

The bodies of Daniel T. Borders, 26, of Hermon; Nicolle A. Lugdon, 24, of Eddington; and Lucas A. Tuscano, 28, of Bradford were found burned inside a white Pontiac sedan with Rhode Island plates that was discovered on fire early on Aug. 13 in the back parking lot of Automatic Distributors, located at 22 Target Industrial Circle.

A person was caught by video surveillance cameras walking away from the burning car, but police continue to be tight-lipped about who they believe was driving the vehicle and whether they have interviewed the person.

The victims’ friends have said the Rhode Island car was driven to Maine by an out-of-state man who comes up on occasion, always in a rental car. They used his name, which the Bangor Daily News is withholding because he has not been charged with any crime.

When asked if investigators had interviewed the out-of-state man, Kenison said, “I can’t talk about that.”

The out-of-state man, who friends say knew Lugdon and Borders, reportedly knocked on the front door of a Bangor apartment about 1 a.m. Aug. 13 and left with the three homicide victims, possibly to go smoke marijuana.

A couple of hours later, at about 3:30 a.m., a woman driving to work discovered the Pontiac ablaze in the back parking lot of Automatic Distributors.

Police also are not disclosing how the three homicide victims were killed, whether they were dead before the fire was started, whether an accelerant was used to burn the car, or whether investigators have additional video surveillance evidence from outside the crime scene, Kenison said.

The disclosure that the MDEA was involved in the investigation is the first time illegal drug use has officially been linked to the homicide, even though speculation to that effect has been rampant over the last month.

“There is all kinds of rumors out there,” Kenison said.

Borders and Lugdon both have drug convictions, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News, and they were both using illegal drugs, their friends and families said.

Borders’ criminal history includes convictions for unlawful possession of scheduled drugs in September 2009, assault in December 2010 and a Massachusetts arrest for trafficking in cocaine in June 2009. The trafficking charge was later dropped, the mother of Borders’ child has said.

Lugdon was convicted of possessing marijuana in 2008, and her family and several close friends confirm that she used marijuana, diverted prescription medications and — during the last months she was alive — cocaine and heroin.

Lugdon’s mother died of a heroin overdose in March 2002, and five months later her father killed her grandmother during an argument over drugs, according to BDN archives.

While the Bangor Police Department continues to be the lead investigative agency, the Maine attorney general’s office took over the case shortly after the state medical examiner’s office determined that the deaths were homicides.

Local police have partnered with Maine State Police, the state fire marshal’s office and now the MDEA to find out who is responsible for the deaths of Borders, Lugdon and Tuscano.

“We’ve talked to a lot of people and we’re continuing to speak with people,” Kenison said. “The investigation is proceeding and we are moving forward.”

  1. They know who did it, he must be in hiding.  I hope they catch him soon.  Pretty scary to even think he is on the loose

    1.  “He” is obviously part of a larger organization that has ties to Rhode Island.  The MDEA is looking to make a major bust here.

      1.  The car that was used could have come from a rental place in Utah, Texas, Michigan, etc. Just because it had Rhode Island plates doesnt mean the person was from there.

        1.  the 4th person was from rhode island/new jersey but is a known criminal in maine. he has been arrested for assault, and other violent crime/robberies

      1. cut and paste from the above article:

“The victims’ friends have said the Rhode Island car was driven to Maine by an out-of-state man who comes up on occasion, always in a rental car. They used his name, which the Bangor Daily News is withholding because he has not been charged with any crime. “

        1. In the comment section which in no way, shape or form means that person was the one responsible. Come on dkenzie you are way smarter than this.

          1. It was not in a comment section.  It was a reporter that stated it in the section.
“The victims’ friends have said the Rhode Island car was driven to Maine by an out-of-state man who comes up on occasion, always in a rental car. They used his name, which the Bangor Daily News is withholding because he has not been charged with any crime. ”  I can not find the article with the name still looking

          2. Again, you are smarter then this…just because someone saw the driver and named him doesn’t mean he murdered anyone. Now please do not interpret my comment as saying the driver was not involved.

          3. Yup absolutely…all the rocks and core samples were just fakes. Apollo 13 never had a problem and it was just a big fake.

          4. Actually warm I do know it to be a fact.

But since we don’t know who drove the car to the residence or if the driver was even the same person seen walking away from the blazing car in Target Ind Park we don’t know who the killer or killers are and to suggest otherwise is very silly.

So until the police identify or make an arrest the killer or killers remain unknown to the general public and that is as it should be.

          5. I agree Jd, honestly i believe the driver was just the one who was expected to get rid of the evidence and burn the car.  I honestly dont believe he or she is the one that murdered them.

          6. they never said the mans name and he was actually from mass. and not all of them knew the guy only two did the pther person was just in the wrong place at the wrong time..

  2. MDEA is now involved a month later.  People have told them it was drug involved weeks ago.  This case needs to be settled or we will see more of it happening.  Let’s keep our city as safe as possible.

      1.  The police have never said it was drug related til now. WeRLosingCivility is speaking of all the people in the comments saying drugs.

    1. I think MDEA has probably been involved since day one. Notice the story doesn’t say exactly when they got involved. We can figure they would ask feds, Maine agencies and agencies in some other states for help soon as the leads warrant it. Both drug and gang specialists might be able to help. I don’t know about you but I don’t see much in this “news” story that’s “new”. I hope we get some good news soon in this case.

  3. The MDEA actually seems to worsen the drug problem in this town, because it wants to conduct sweeping interstate investigations, rather just arrest the skum bags next door selling drugs.  I’ve now been told twice, when I’ve called to complain about different rat-traps selling drugs, that the MDEA is involved.  Both times I’ve seen nothing happen.  Still waiting for the MDEA to come zooming in and do something.  I’m more concerned about my neighborhood than I am in seeing them make some huge drug bust.

    1.  Just because you know someone has or is committing a crime doesn’t mean you can just run out and arrest them. Due Process requires that you have evidence not just a belief. It can sometimes take weeks, months and even years to prove a case. Unfortunately in real life you can’t always solve a crime in 3o minutes like they do on TV.

    2. Sounds like they are no better than the big time dealers. Going for the money. That’s where the money is, not the small time dealers.

    3. I actually agree with you Bangorian.  How many of these so-called sting operations go on for weeks, months or longer and involve our kids and others being further wrapped up into this poison.  Get em off the streets. This isnt New York City as everyone often reminds me, so take em down.

      1.  its starting to turn into lewiston/auburn

Whats happening is what you said bangorian. What I think happened in
this case and why it “won’t be solved in a timely manner” is because the
crime was linked to a national or regional syndicate/cartel which the
FBI, DEA, etc may be investigating.

    4.  Whats happening is what you said bangorian. What I think happened in this case and why it “won’t be solved in a timely manner” is because the crime was linked to a national or regional syndicate/cartel which the FBI, DEA, etc may be investigating.

    5. It’s all about the money, the homes, cars, planes they get and of course the drugs.
Apparently your neighbors aren’t “worth” the effort to bust.

  4. Well Congratulations.  The BPD can call it rumors, inuendos, speculation, or whatever they want but it seems to me that if everyone talking about this says it looks like a duck, it quacks like a duck, then well, it must be a duck….Geez….Why in the world does it take a MONTH to get the MDEA involved when the thought of drugs was rampant from the very beginning.  This is exactly why no cases ever seem to get solved around here.  The fact that they are not disclosing how they were killed is just plain silly….I think the killers already KNOW THAT dont they?…so what are they afraid of letting out?  If this happened in any other part of the country we would already know all of this crap.  Even Florida which has one of the worst court systems in the country would have gotten information out faster than this…cmon BANGOR PD, get it together, lets actually catch someone that isnt guilty of smoking a little pot or not wearing their seatbelt….GEESH!!!!!!!

    1. “Why in the world does it take a MONTH to get the MDEA involved when the thought of drugs”

Well for one. people who posted they were friends and relatives here and on FB, kept saying it was unkind to think it was about drugs.

      1. I agree, it was unkind the day after it happened, and even the day after they were identified, but lets not be naive.  Drugs has been the main reason all of us felt this murder happened from the very beginning.  The story, whether it be brought on from the BDN or the police themselves, isnt telling us a thing we didnt already know.

        1. Why was it unkind to state the obvious the day after this happened? All the victims friends and family were already very well aware that at least Borders and Lugdon were deeply involved with hard drugs so just who do you imagine you were trying to be “kind” to by pretending it didn’t look like drugs were involved in their deaths?  The most “kind” thing that could possibly come from this is that a few of the victims druggie friends or other local druggies learn a lesson from this and reassess their own involvement in the world of illegal drugs.

          1. 100% agree with you.  I truly hope that it will change some lies, unfortunately, we all know that drug addiction rarely allows something like a conscience to play a part.

      2.  It WAS about drugs. its going to be a wakeup call for bangor and whoever the bangor police chief is…

    2. Just because it took a month for them to say MDEA is involved in no way, shape, or form means that it took a month for them to be involved…

      1. Well pardon me for reading the story and their so-called Announcement as being such.  Guess you are in the know..I am a mere armchair quarterback afterall.

        1. You are right that the headline and story make it sound like the MDEA’s involvement is recent, but if you applied just a little common sense, you’d have understood that this is just the BDN recycling a controversial, attention getting story to get more “clicks” that justify advertisers paying them money.  Most likely an editor told Ms Ricker to update her story about this killing so she dutifully called the BPD and asked what was new. Nothing was new, at least nothing they were willing to release, and that’s what they told her. But still, she had been ordered to come up with a story so she asked about the (obvious) drug connection and the police mentioned that the MDEA was “now” involved (duh!) so she took that juicy little nugget and wrote a story around it. I expect more periodic non story stories about this crime in the BDN over the coming months even if nothing new is released by the investigating agencies. It’s what newspapers do to make money. I’ll give Ms. Ricker the benefit of the doubt and assume that she’s at least a little bit embarrassed to have her name associated with this latest “non story” that her employer insisted on publishing. I think it’s pretty clear to anyone who read this that they didn’t really have anything to say or any new news to reveal. But here we all are on their website, they got their “clicks” and the advertisers will continue to pay the bills. Remember the old saying, you get what you pay for…and that the BDN online edition is free!

          1. You bring up many fine points but I can’t seem to understand the point you are making. If it is that writers write the story so the readers can read the story and the BDN does all this pro bono for our entertainment then I guess I get it. What’s wrong with that?

As a side note, most posters here think they are entitiled to the lead detectives office everyday and when the BDN doesn’t put out a story of any type they play the “why haven’t we heard about the triple homicide case enough”, “where is the Ayla Case”, “What is the latest with the woman that cut off her boyfriends testacles with a pair of pliers”.

Write the stories, get torn apart, don’t write them, get torn apart, all to “sell” papers that are free. Go figure.

          2. My main point was the Jeffcol was making all sorts of assumptions about the police investigation and its slow pace based on the timing of this article and what it said and seemed rather outraged by the way the investigation was presented in the articles.  For example, though the article does seem to imply that MDEA involvement is recent, I seriously doubt that and certainly wouldn’t assume it based on a single story in the BDN.

The BDN publishes stories to make money just like any other business. Most of us would prefer that those stories be factual and pertinent and unbiased and well written but if they don’t have any stories that meet those criteria, they apparently feel they have to publish SOMETHING and I believe that’s what happened here.  We online readers don’t invest our money, but our clicks on news stories are counted and BDN advertisers pay for that exposure. So, whether we like the story or think it’s truthful or pertinent isn’t what matters, just as long as we log on and are duly counted as having done so. We invest our time and our “click” and the advertisers provide the money.

I agree that the BDN and other newspapers are criticized for writing articles and also if they don’t write an article, and some people wrongly seem to think they are entitled to every detail in police files on they day that detail is first suspected but all that comes with the territory when you’re a cop or a publisher.  In this case, if the BDN was feeling pressure to write another article on the triple murder but didn’t have any new facts to present, I wish they had either resisted the pressure (just as all of us should resist the temptation to speak out when we know we have nothing to say) to write this non story, or if they felt they really HAD to write something, make it a short, single, paragraph stating that authorities are still working hard on the case but have nothing new to report at this time. That’s really all they said using a LOT more words than were necessary.

          3. Ok. I see your point clearer now but I still have two questions.

            1. How do you know the motive of the BDN? How do you know they were getting pressure to write another story. Some people want to know the MDEA is involved as they can offer another set of cross references as to the parties potentially involved.

            2. So if I want to run an ad in the BDN a BDN salesman will show me their on line clicks in order to get me to advetise with them?

            Just curious.

          4. 1. I’m obviously guessing at the motive of the BDN, but when they have nothing new to report about a controversial and high profile story that’s sure to garner tons of of curious “clicks,” but they run a story anyway, what other motive besides money could they have had? I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “if it bleeds, it leads!” Even though it’s not significant news, a story that will make a big splash and get the newspaper or tv news show more viewers will frequently get the nod over a more newsworthy but less flashy story. It’s a bu$ine$$.

            2. Yes. If you are considering running an online ad, they will tell you about the number of eyes that will see your ad online and they get that number by counting the number of times the online edition is accessed, and if you are considering running a print ad, they will tell you how many printed copies your ad will appear in.  As a business considering investing in various types of ads, you need to know how many potential customers your limited advertising budget will reach by using each type of media.  I have a friend whose income suddenly went from about $70K to over $300K in just a few years, and during this time, all his magazine subscriptions suddenly became free, and he also started getting free magazine subscriptions to publications he had no interest in.  When his income went up, he became a desirable subscriber, so desirable that they were willing to give him their product for free just so they could claim him in order to boost the average income of their subscribers. The more readership and the wealthier your subscribers are, the more you can charge for your ads.

          5. Readers ask: What’s new? Editors ask: Anything happening? Reporters check, and write an “Update.”   Or, I suspect, this reporter is constantly checking her sources.  The MDEA served as a good lead.

This is a good follow-up and keeps the public informed.  When the big break comes – the BDN and Ms. Ricker will continue their fine coverage.

The advertisers had nothing whatsoever to do with the reporter, the editor, or the police department releasing this information.   They consider it their duty to keep the public informed.

          6. I generally agree that BDN coverage of this story has been good, but I strongly disagree that this particular article is a “good” follow up or the MDEA served as a “good” lead. I also suspect that the main point it seems to be making is misleading. Do you REALLY think that it took the MDEA nearly a month to become involved in a highly publicized murder investigation where it was well known on the very first day that the victims were involved in using and dealing illegal drugs?  I don’t buy that for a second.

My point about the advertisers is that the BDN needs to be able to point to the number of clicks on their site to justify charging advertisers for exposure to X number of potential customers and this obviously is a controversial crime that will attract lots of attention every time a story is written about it, even if that story has nothing new to report.

          7. My interpretation of your post: It was sarcastic.

A majority of posts I’ve read constantly decry the BDN for its coverage of this and other stories.

It’s very easy to condemn.  Much harder to drop by the investigators’ office and attempt to get an update – a new lead.  You should try it, especially with  a case as involved as this is.

Advertising keeps the presses rolling.  Then you have to face advertisers who pull their ads if the newspaper prints news, or commentary, which is  contrary to their beliefs – especially political views, or, news.

The fact that the BDN published this story inside without any pre-publication fanfare, strips away your contention it was done purely to attract advertisers.  Presuming that such publication after the fact would endear advertisers to buy an ad’, doesn’t seem to jell.

As mentioned before, and by many others on this board, it was expected that the MDEA had been involved from Day One.  A detective told the reporter on this story that “we have been working” with various agencies” – including the MDEA.

If I’d have been squeezing the police for a new angle the MDEA would have been sufficient. Besides, it keeps people up to date, so that they don’t think the BDN has forgotten the crime anymore than the BPD has.

Maine  has a glut of slick publications and newsletters crammed with ads.  But few carrying anything of substance.

          8. Of course it’s easier to condemn the job others do than to investigate a story yourself, but when you drop by the investigators office to get a new lead, but there is no such lead to be had that day, you shouldn’t write the story anyway just to have a headline about a flashy subject in your publication. Cry “wolf” too many times and pretty soon nobody pays any attention even when you do have something important to say.

The lack of pre-publication fanfare has NOTHING to do with this. Advertisers aren’t buying ad space adjacent to this particular story or any other particular story, but the more readership (clicks online) the paper can prove they have had in the recent past, the more than can charge for ads in the future.

“Squeezing” the BPD to say something as obvious as the MDEA is involved in a month old drug/murder case?! In other breaking news, the sun rose in the east this morning.

          9. Do you honestly believe that a prospective advertiser is going to spring three or four grand on an ad’, if the story has 60 reader “clicks” on the commentary page?

From what little I know about marketing, advertisers unhook their billfolds based on what they read for circulation figures.

    3. They probably arnt disclosing the cause of death because it’s most likely gruesome.. and why don’t you hop in on this investigation if your so intelligent?

        1. I’ve heard this as well. I think what happened were the people were shot in the back of the head and the car burned with possibly the victims still alive or conscience hence making it “gruesome”.

I really think the 4th person in the vehicle was the killer. However there was another car seen in the security camera that I believe was a drug runner who was bringing the drugs to the 4 people. Perhaps someone owed money (my belief) or they angered the drug runner

    4. Well, there you go JeffCol….Apparently since you have the need to know more about what happened, law enforcement agencies should share every little tidbit with YOU because if you were in Florida, you would already know by now. Do you think Bangor P.D. just got the MDEA involved? Just for the record, the local MDEA is staffed by several Bangor Police Department employees including a Sgt and several other individuals. I would suspect even without reading the BDN that the agency has been involved since the beginning. It just happens it has been a close to a month and the BDN needs to rehash the story to fill the paper. Bangor P.D. has a bang up record in solving homicides and convicting murderers so your rant is unwarranted and rather silly. Specific details including how a victim is killed are always held back. Frankly I am sure they dont need any of our information to help solve the case. I would suggest that this one will be wrapped up by the first of the year and without any of your  self bestowed genius driving the investigation.

      1. A bang up record?  solving homicides and convicting murderers?  first of all, the police dont convict if i am not mistaken the DA and lawyers do, and it never seems to be close to the appropriate ammount of time.  Second, my so-called rant is from years and years of watching true justice NOT be served in this county and state. Not a youngin here at all.  Finally, i am allowed to have an opinion.  I can even post about it.  In my opinion, the last three murderers that were CAUGHT, you or I could have easily solved…they actually copped to it themselves..Let’s see the so-called awesome investigative ability at work and see if they do have this wrapped by the first of the year..I would bet you a breakfast at Dysart’s that they do not.

        1. But could you have done that by the laws so they would be tried and convicted? It takes more that common sense and connecting the dots to arrest these people and KEEP THEM BEHIND BARS!

        2.  Jeff, I am not so sure that the last murders we’ve had, Have actually been solved. Yes people have admitted to them. Case in point Perdomo. The ‘killer’ is in jail. I just recently looked back at the news reports on this and found it incredibly interesting the manner in which his body was wrapped. A blue tarp tied at the ends with rope (presumably white) on a bright red sled. Seems to me like someone was trying to make a statement… Red White Blue: not only the colors of the US flag, but also the Dominican Republic… Oh wait! Didn’t MDEA just bust a Dominican drug trafficking organization from New York operating out of Bangor last November? And gee… Didn’t the young lady here in question, Nicolle, just make a trip to New York right before she was murdered…

Since I don’t believe in coincidences, I’m  inclined to speculate they’re all tied together. And I would bet MDEA knows this, which is why they’re now ‘assisting’ in this investigation. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again:
Wake Up Bangor! We Have A HUGE Problem!!!

    5.  careful jeff because you “know to much” about the case people will start to think you’re involved.

        1. i said something about this case once and someone said i was involved…i live 54 miles away from bangor and was probably either jerking it or playing a video game.

    6. Jeff,

The BPD has been working this around the clock as their top priority triple murder case since they got it. I’m not close to this case but if I where, here is what I would tell you.

Be Patient. We all want an arrest but there are many moving parts to the facts that occurred the day/night of the murders. The AG office wants cases that can be delivered to them with a little bow on top that are all ready to go with a slam dunk prosecution.

Collecting evidence takes a long time. I have heard that 4 people have already confessed to the crime. All 4 are nut jobs loking for attention but they would love to get 3 meals a day and a roof over their head for years so the BPD has to actually follow down their confessions to eliminate them from the being an actual suspect.

Say there is more than just a shooter and 3 innocent victims involved here. Say the PD have determined that there are 3 dead bodies that were violently executed prior to the car fire. There are many rumors out there and some are probably true. I know many rumors that are so false they are laughable.

Now hear me on this point ok friend, The PD is working this as hard as they can but remember double jeopardy law in Maine does exist. The BPD and AG know they only get one chance to put the killer on the stand before the judge. They know the names of the men involved that could have done the kiling, they obviosly know how they were killed, they know where they hold up in Bangor and know where they hold up south of here, let’s just guess NY and MA.

I understand your frustrated. I recall on you of your posts that you have a young son in prison so I am sure you know how these cases play out.

BTW, part of the process of getting crimes solved in interviewing every lead out there. That is why people know what happened. My guess is that a lot of the ones interviewed opned up about what they learned in the interview. Some of the rumors out there are very true, most are not.

The Bangor PD will get the guy(S) responsible for these 3 needless deaths. My guess is that the MDEA has been involved since about day 2, we are just getting word of it now.

      1. Thanks Bush for your comments and responding to my concerns or rants as others have noted in a sympathetic and informative nature.  It really bothers me to see these families go through this.  I appreciate your remembering and sympathizing with the issues with my son as well.  He is actually out for the time being and hopefully getting on the str8 and narrow.  I understand that these cases take time.  Maybe i watch too much HLN news, cause it seems we learn far more about national cases than we do about local cases.  I also realize that the BPD is severely short staffed and trying to cover a lot with a little.  I blame city and state government for that.  I will try to be patient, at your request, but its not easy.  I am truly tired of hearing about all of this bad news, violence and drug involvement in the city i have known as home for nearly 30 years…Thanks again for the comments:)

    7. No where in the article does it state that MDEA “just” got involved.  They could just be releasing this information, MDEA could have been involved from the start.

    8. “In the last three months, Nicolle has tried the hardest she’s ever tried to get off drugs. I saw her do methadone, I saw her do suboxone,” Sutherland recalled. “She came home from New York with 300 methadone tablets and said, ‘I’m not doing anything else. I’m getting off drugs because I don’t like myself.’” AUGUST BDN

Geez, why would anyone think drugs were involved. To come from NY with 300 methadone tablets. Maybe NY is where her precribing doctor resides, doubt it. Even if they did, they usually do 30 day supplies of this type of Medication, not 300! So we know it was a street deal drug. Now if she had around 10k on her for the purchase she could probably walk away free. If she didn’t pay but left it as “I’ll get ya the next time ya come to Bangor” and the seller comes to Bangor to collect to find no money or pills, well, If I was a drug dealer I would want to get my money back. If I didn’t get it back, well, remember Pedermo?

      I have 3 rules.

Rule # 1a. Don’t associate with drug dealers.
Rule # 1. Never lend money to anyone, family or friends.
      Rule # 2. See rule #1 and #2

      1. Thats a good thing if Nicole was trying to clean up. Thats what those drugs are for. Although not always used the way they are intended but to judge someones intentions when they are unable to defend themselves is very unfair. Drug addiction is a sickness. It does not mean that everyone that does them is a bad person. And to judge something that you yourself know nothing about is bs. Have you ever been addicted to drugs? Because if you cant say yes to that then you have no room to judge, speak about these people or anything. The fact is that for one reason or another these victims are no longer with us. And its sad and unfortunate that her little girl is now motherless. How about people stop looking at the victims as the bad guys. They aren’t here to defend themselves or anything. Ill say again that I wish the bangor daily news would stop allowing comments on these articles.

    9. The story states that the BPD has been working with the MDEA.  No reference to having just begun to work with them.

Disclosing the exact causes of death, known only by the killer(s) and investigators, removes an important leverage point in the investigation.

      1. Bangor police continue to search for the killer or killers and have asked the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency for assistance, Bangor police Detective Sgt. Paul Kenison said Tuesday.

I apologize if my comments were inacurate.  This statement is what lead me to my conclusion.  Obviously common sense does tell you that they were involved much earlier…but the BDN is trying to sell some papers.

        1. I get a kick out of this “Bangor Daily News is trying to sell some newspapers.”

That’s the job of a newspaper, just as it is the job of anyone in any business to sell their product.

People buy a newspaper to keep up to date with what is happening.  That means constantly bugging news sources for news.  Maintaining a link on the progress of a multiple slaying is a story that people are extremely interested in.  The BDN does an exemplary job on this and other stories.

There was as much derision surrounding the recent story about a parapsychologist delving into a 20-year-old murder mystery.  The BD N was castigated for printing the story.  As controversial as parapsychology is, the news was that he had joined a friend of the victim in an attempt to locate the victim.  Good or bad.  It’s news.

Would like to see more attention focused on missing tot, Ayla of Waterville.  I would be happy with a single daily line: “Police continue to search for Ayla Reynolds, missing from her Waterville home…”

    1. Just because drugs were involved in this situation doesnt make it right for the victims families and friends have to read the post from ignorant people.. They are still victims in more than one way… They succomed to the pressure and were doing drugs it is a very hard thing to overcome so unless you have been there and gone through it I suggest you shut your traps because you have no idea how hard it is to do…. They are still victims of this horrific crime no matter what drugs or anything else they were doing they still deserve justice and so do there families and friends!!!!!

    1. Presuming it was a rental car, i can go rent a car in Skow that has vermont or any state plates on it. Also, being a ten year old car, it could have been rented at a rent a dent store,or something similar.

  5. I don’t recall BND stating it was drug related but they did reveal the victim’s criminal histories.  It
was reported that the driver of the rental car w/RI plates visted Maine ‘on occasion’.    Come on folks…  It was drug clearly related.  Don’t normally jump to conclusons but this one is a no brainer.
    Very sad.

  6. MDEA couldn’t catch a cold. They might trip over a few pot plants once in a while, but they all watch CSI Miami, and are waiting to bring in the “Big Fish”. Well, the Big Fish is probably wiser than all of the MDEA combined. They should focus on taking the thugs off the street, and be happy with the occasional “big” bust. If it was real important, no disrespect to the families, the Feds would be involved.

  7. Do you really think the MDEA was not involved from the beginning? They know the players and the connections. Just because the BDN needs a fresh story does not mean it is accurate.  Next week they’ll tell you  the Fire Marshals are looking into it too. The BDN is just stoking the story again. Chill

  8. I personaly think that Bangor and the surrounding towns need to all speak up and get this crap out of here. I am a father to a little girl and I am so scared for her future if this stuff keeps going the way it is. Time for people to speak up and stand for a change in how things are done. Bangor, Brewer Orono, Old Town and all the other towns with in a 25 mile range of bangor need to come together. Drug dealers or users should not run these areas and PD needs our help and speak up when you see stuff. I left Mass to get away from this and 11 years later it feels like I am in Mass. Stored being robbed people being robbed houses being broken into shoplifting more and more happening. I don’t know the answers but I do believe if we ellect some people that will get after judges that are not hard on these people when they are caught then it is a start. Instead of letting them out 2 weeks after being convicted.

    1.  come buy my house $35,000 cash and i walk tomorrow…we have good schools, low minorities and crime is usually only people who know people like the good old days of maine

  9. I hope that someone will be covering the courthouse today where Patricia Giles makes her first court appearance for a felony and a misdemeanor.  One charge being leaving the scene of a hit and run, which resulted in the death of Joshua Constantine.

  10. I read a lot of comments about this case . and every body has a right to their opinon.  I think the MDEA  was involved a while ago. It ‘ s not brain science that this was a drug hit. It  looked like a professional job. and too of the victims were into heavey drugs.my opinon is that they  didn’t know what they were getting into. the victims probily thought that the person or persons were cool. Until something happens probily with money. money to those guys is like blood. No second chances. It is sad what happend. but i don’t think the police have a lot of evidence. even with the MDEA involved. sadly this case probily won’t be solved . Even if the FBI gets involved or already has.I do feel for the familes. some people don’t think this can happen in the real world but just in movies. It does and it’s  scary.

  11. A few observations:

    1) The story doesn’t say when they asked MDEA for help. I would assume they got involved early in this case. Don’t assume they waited a month to call in MDEA and you can figure the MDEA would be the ones to ask feds and other states for help in cases where they already have good contacts and relationships.

    2) If that car was a rental, it’s too old to be from any major rental company. It might be from a company that has locations in a few adjoining states. In this case maybe the RI-CT-MA area. It could also be a company that’s only in RI. It’s not far to RI cities for a lot of people in MA. Anyway, smaller rental companies I’ve used didn’t allow 10 year old cars to be driven too far away. The ones that allowed the car out of state would put the states or distance on the contract.

    3) If the police suspected the car renter did it and have not located him (dead or alive), they would have to go public with the name by now. Somebody who executes 3 people and torches the bodies in a car easily traced back to him would be considered dangerous and desperate.

    1.  scratch #2, there are rent-a-wreck outfits all over the place that rent older cars every day on the cheap and just because the renter said he was taking it for local use doesnt mean he’s not going to cross state lines.
the police already know who’s car it is and who rented it, the name is being withheld by “BDN’ as the article states but has been released by other news agencies. None have stated that this person is involved in the case other than to say the police are looking for him as a person of interest.

      1.  I realize that renters often do that. As the cost of trackers comes down it gets harder to find rental cars that don’t have one.

Yes, I knew that name because it was released in stories and comments elsewhere. He would be a person of interest but anybody they couldn’t locate who was at that party would also be a person of interest.

Anyway, the reporting says the guy usually came here in a rental car. I haven’t seen anything official that this time it was a rental. It could also be borrowed or stolen.

  12. this was a no-brainers…we knew this was drugs all along. hopefully the case can be solved but i highly doubt it

  13. Love the way they keep saying out of state man they don’t have a clue who this is the only thing they know is what he said his name was to every one around here he could be any one from any where no one has seen any Id LOL

  14. Anybody can drive a rental car, that doesn’t mean anything.. they need proof.  you can’t make arrests based on assumptions  gossip and rumors.

  15. I just so hope that there is an ending to this case…it is like a movie yet in the movies they find and convict the killer(s).  There MUST be justice for these young people who had families and who had moms and dads and friends who cared and loved them.  Manufactured drugs and the opiste abuse these days is out of control and the addiction is like no other.  Unless you have had been in similar situations with drug use and peer pressure you really have no idea what kind of life and how hard life is on a daily basis….This is a TRAGIC story…there needs to be an ending where these kids get justice and can rest in peace…because until there is someone who is responsible for these murders be it one person or multiple people (i believe multiple people) noone will be able to “forget” or even put to rest this story.  I pray that there are more developments brought public soon…..for the city of Bangor ..the State of Maine and for the People……God Bless Nikki Lugden, Dan Borders and Luke Tuscano soon you can rest in peace…..

  16. I sense a whole lot less optimism by officials now than right afterward, when they were rather bullish about being able to solve this triple murder. Now, phrases like “It’s a complex and very involved investigation” seem to suggest that it may not be solved. I have no doubt that “It’s a complex and very involved investigation,” but officials seemed more self-assured right after this happened. If drugs were involved (only a fool would suggest they weren’t), you’ll have a lot of tight-lipped people eager to keep the ‘network’ alive even though three young people aren’t.

  17. My Theory is after reading comments and the BDN.Is the man went to pick up borders he didn’t expect the other two to come.even though the women was into drugs and she knew him. It seems the buissnes was with borders.and the guy wasn’ t going to stop them from getting into the car. they probily drove to that spot the guy probily called the boss and told them they were there. and when they got there. Either it was about money or maybe he told on some one. they probily shot them with a silencer on a pistol so nobody would hear. and i doubt they were alive when the fire started. and obviously they ain’t going to leave any witneses. This stuff happens a lot in big cities.IT is very sad. look at mexico there is some sick stuff going on down there alot of gang activity.people getting killed for drugs and money .It is a very sad world we live in . hopefully it gets better. thats yet to be seen.

    1. you are right it was for borders and the other two went for the ride not knowing what was about to happen to them it is very sad…

  18. All i have to say really is that when they do arrest the people that did this to my good friend they better hope they don’t get let out on bail because they might not make it to there court date if they do alot of people are angry about the taking of a life that had absolutely nothing to do with it…

  19. It doesn’t take a lot to figure this one out people.  Past trafficking charges, Rhode Island, Massachusetts connections, and 3 dead in a burned out car in a vacant lot.  DRUGS???  Of course it’s over drugs.
