LEWISTON, Maine — The Maine Department of Education is set to unveil a birth-to-adult literacy initiative called Literacy for ME.

Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen will be joined by literary specialist Lee Anne Larsen at an event Tuesday at the Lewiston Public Library.

The project’s goals include helping all Maine residents meet the literacy demands of the 21st century, providing guidance to local communities and fostering collaboration among multiple stakeholders.

The Maine Department of Education will be holding six meetings throughout the state starting next week.

  1. I hope this program starts with Paul Lepage, who, if he writes his own speeches, could certainly use some help.  He is the most inarticulate speaker I’ve ever heard.  He sounds like a fourth-grader delivering his first oral book report and it is almost painful to listen to him.  I’ve seen many in an audience just wince at his lame attempts to read.
