BANGOR, Maine — Two major events — the Northeast Shrine Association Parade and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure — will descend on Bangor this weekend, and with them will come numerous road closures.
The Shrine Parade will kick off at 2 p.m. Saturday on Exchange Street, and the route will take it from there to State Street, Main Street and Buck Street before ending at Bass Park, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.
All of Main Street from downtown to Buck Street will close to traffic at 1:30 p.m. and reopen at 5 p.m. That includes intersecting side streets off Main Street.
Exchange Street, along with portions of York and Hancock streets and Kenduskeag Plaza, will close at 11 a.m. for parade unit staging.
On Sunday, the Race for the Cure will start at 10 a.m, with the 5K route starting on Front Street near the Sea Dog restaurant, going up May Street to Cedar Street before turning onto Main Street, heading up Lincoln Street to Webster Avenue, onto Buck Street, back to Main Street and finishing on Railroad Street.
Main Street from Cedar Street to Buck Street will be closed at 9:30 a.m. All intersecting side streets that enter Main Street will be barricaded at 9:15.
Front Street, May Street, Buck Street and portions of West Broadway and Webster Avenue will be temporarily closed.
All roads should be open and traffic flow back to normal by 12:30 p.m. Front Street and areas along the waterfront may remain closed until 3 p.m.
A friend of mine was doing cancer research wrighting a book . His “click to the cure “.com website had to be shut down and he had to change the name to prevent being sued . Yes they do great thing but come on why spend money to sue people who are trying to achieve the same goals ? We all need to work together on this . I want to know what percentage of the $25 it cost to do the race goes to cancer treatments , research etc. and how much goes to lawyer fee to sue people with a simular name?
