BANGOR, Maine — A Surry man is facing an assault charge after he punched a man through a taxicab window early Friday morning, according to police.

Benjamin Payson, 27, was walking away from Diamonds nightclub around 1:30 a.m. when he punched the man and walked away, Bangor police Sgt. Garry Higgins said.

“We really don’t know why he did it,” Higgins said.

Fortunately for the victim, police were nearby and were on the scene quickly, Higgins said.

“There’s always somebody right around [Diamonds],” he said.

Payson was summoned for assault, a Class D crime punishable by up to a year in prison. The victim did not require medical treatment.
