NEWPORT, Maine — The Rite Aid Pharmacy on the corner of Routes 2 and 7 was robbed for the second time in a month on Sunday afternoon.
Police received a report of a robbery at the pharmacy at 2:05 p.m. Newport police, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department and Maine State Police responded to the call.
The suspect “went into the store, presented a note demanding prescription drugs. He did make off with drugs,” said Newport police Lt. Randy Wing.
The suspect didn’t display a weapon. Wing wouldn’t say how many or what kind of prescription drugs were taken. No one in the store was injured.
Wing described the suspect as a white male in his 20s with a full, dark beard with scruffy beard growth down his neck. He’s approximately 6 feet tall, medium build and was last seen wearing a Boston Red Sox cap, a dark pullover sweatshirt with colorful graphics on the front, dark jeans and wrap-around sunglasses.
“He was seen leaving the store running through the wooded area towards the tractor-trailer parking area next to State Farm [along Main Street],” said Wing.
The suspect got into a small silver car, likely a General Motors make, he said.
It’s been exactly one month to the day since the Newport Rite Aid was last robbed of prescription drugs.
On Aug. 16, a white male walked into the store and stole an undisclosed amount of drugs. Wing said they are still investigating that case.
It “doesn’t appear to be” the same suspect, said Wing.
Rite Aid Pharmacy remained closed more than an hour after the robbery took place.
Anyone with information on either pharmacy robbery is asked to call the Newport Police Department at 368-3263.

No picture really? The man was seen getting into a vehicle..was the license plate number seen?
Doubt it and the security cameras probably got nothing on the car through that area to the state farm office, hopefully one of the suspect entering is released.
Glad they updated it with a pic, too made there isn’t a camera by the register in these pharmacies to get a closer up of the thief’s face

Considering not many robbers of drug stores are smart these days, maybe Newport PD, the County Sheriff and the Maine State Police might want to clear their calendars for October 16th…..
They need to hand out Exlax!
They wont come back!
probably not at all a bad idea, to have some placebos all ready to go.
Sure, and get sanctioned for “misbranding.”
really?? duh the pills would be set aside for the robber only…
I have made that suggestion before…. and got heck for it when I did!
Rite Aid needs to arm their pharmacists.
well i’m surprised the last couple times i’ve been in newport there has been a cop parked in the parking lot of rite aid…
not to mention tim horton’s is across the street…and I’ve seen many a state, county and newport cop sitting there at all times of the day
and your point is???
lol…
pretty much: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwIvBNsSywQ
He’s a troll. Don’t indulge him!
feed me mama jenile!!
How about a PICTURE please????
Go figure, a red sox fan
Right, usually robbers are Yankees fans.
No your wrong most are Red sox fans or Patriot fans. How about those patriots, oh they lost again
all they need to do is what jewelry stores in the city do they push a button the doors lock and it also direct police alert.when will they get smart.
If it’s cheaper for Rite Aid to keep losing all these drugs, and risk harm to employees, than to hire security, why are consumers paying so much for the same drugs the thieves are stealing? Must be a heck of a markup on them.
I don’t even care anymore. When was the last time someone got hurt in one of these robberies? Do you think Rite Aid is getting hurt? No! What nobody will tell you is that drug companies have a no questions asked drug replacement policy for robberies. That’s why NOT ONE pharmacy in the country has enacted preventative measures to stop this. They’re asking to be robbed, and the pharmaceutical companies are backing them up… When the stores start doing something to prevent it I’ll care again… But until then, you’re enabling the robbers.
Are you on drugs? This guy committed a crime and your blaming the pharmacy’s owner? WTH?! Are you the guy who robbed it? Because, you don’t seem to care about anything or anyone except you theories. Pffftttt….
They’re not theories, lol. I know it sounds stupid, but that’s what infuriates me. They’re not doing anything to stop it. NOT ONE SECURITY PRECAUTION. Have you read one article where a store has taken any addition precaution? No. You haven’t. You know why? Because if nobody get hurt and the store doesn’t lose money, why try to stop people in the act? Just snap a photo and let them walk out the door. It’s kind of like a bank leaving the vault open every night and the front door unlocked. Free money. In this case, free drugs.
that is so stupid I don’t know where to begin !!
A business does nothing to prevent robberies that they KNOW are going to occur, and my idea is stupid?
i think the pharmacies need a camera thats right on the counter facing up to see the faces better.all are overhead and you cant see the robbers well.
They need to have these cameras at actual face level….
I would agree 100% – a camera at face level on the shelves behind the pharmacist would be much more helpful….
There needs to pharmacy marshals like they
have Air marshals on planes. I am not walking into a pharmacy ever again
until they do! Customers and workers need to unite for their own
safety!
wannabe wigger
Maybe putting drug stores in a police dept would help…..thatd be cool
the Pharmacist should have a double barrel shotgun under the counter…..splatter one of these scumbags all over the floor…..and i think the rest of the druggies will think twice!
Maybe when the suspect is running out the door the pharmacist can hit a button that releases an automatic chemical spray all over the robber that won’t come off for awhile no matter how many showers you take! A nice color like flourescent green..or like I said before, all hard drugs can be dispensed AT the police station. Geesh, I need to watch some more 007 James Bond movies to get some ideas! They always have brilliant tricks to catch the bad guys…
That’s it, let’s “ban” perscription drugs (painkillers)…then the problem will go away. Right…?
