BANGOR, Maine — A man allegedly punched a woman who was holding a baby in the face last week while removing items from an apartment they shared. He returned later and was arrested along with another man after they both were found to have the synthetic drug bath salts hidden on them, police said.
The woman initially didn’t report the assault but was on the phone with a girlfriend when Timmy J. Dailey, 38, of Bangor returned to her apartment at about 2 p.m. Friday, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.
“The girlfriend said she’d call 911,” he said Monday.
Officer Michael Brennan was nearby and could hear the woman screaming as she attempted to keep Dailey from getting inside her home on Valley View Lane, Edwards said. Brennan stopped to talk to the woman and Officers Garry Higgins and Joe Baillargeon stopped Dailey just down the street.
“Dailey was arrested for domestic violence assault, and during the search of him a small baggie [containing bath salts] was found stuffed inside his belt,” Edwards said.
The belt had a hidden compartment, he explained.
Dailey’s passenger, Matthew Tardiff, 25, of Bangor also was found with the dangerous street drug and was charged with felony unlawful possession of synthetic hallucinogens due to a prior conviction, Edwards said.
Dailey was charged with misdemeanor unlawful possession of synthetic hallucinogens and domestic violence assault. Both men were taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there on Monday, Edwards said.
Tardiff was living in Old Town in February when he was convicted of unlawful trafficking in synthetic hallucinogenic drugs and ordered to pay a $400 fine, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News.
He also was convicted of two counts unlawful possession of scheduled drugs in July 2009 and sentenced to 90 days in jail for each count and a $400 fine. Dailey was convicted in 1996 of assault and sentenced to 30 days in jail with all but 48 hours suspended, the BDN listings state.

Why was she holding a baby in the face?
I think the proofreader has the day off.
lmao, thank you hahaha
I wondered the same thing…
dumb and dumb-er
Babies enjoy being held by the face.
Ladies, when you consider who you want to be your boyfriend, neither of the males named in the article are who you want. Unless you want to qualify for your own “reality show”, run, do not walk, away from any such types.
“Tardiff was living in Old Town in February when he was convicted of unlawful trafficking in synthetic hallucinogenic drugs and ordered to pay a $400 fine, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News.”
Shouldn’t drug dealers punishments be meted out in years not dollars?
Wow, that first sentence is painful to read!
One possible correct wording,
“Last week, a man allegedly punched a woman in the face while she was holding a baby”
I’m sure she put the “last week” reference at the end of the clause so as to trap us into reading the whole (garbled mess), without first identifying it as “old news”.
Where are all the commenters lined up to say “Bulldoze Vally View Ave! Its no longer safe! What a dump!”.
Just curious, because when there’s a Bath Salts story in other neighborhoods that’s all you hear…
