BOWDOIN, Maine — A local man is in fair condition after suffering serious injuries in a weekend fireworks in accident.
An official says 62-year-old William Sawyer had placed some fireworks on a picnic table at his Litchfield Road home to test them when a shell tipped over and ignited all of the canisters.
Sgt. Joel Davis of the state Fire Marshal’s Office told WLBZ-TV that Sawyer suffered severe leg trauma. Sawyer was outside by himself at the time, and his wife was inside. No one else was injured.
Davis says Sawyer didn’t follow the product’s directions, which say the shells should be secured to the ground.
The town of Bowdoin has no restrictions on the use of fireworks.
I wish people would grow up. 62 years old and playing with fireworks? Last time I played with fireworks I was 15 years old. I guess some people never grow up!

This is about the third injured person with fireworks in 3 weeks.
There was 3 Old Orchard Beach firefighters injured in a house fire,caused by fireworks last month.
There were at least 5 fireworks related injuries over the summer.
Fireworks have been legal in Maine…..less than 9 months
I have all of my fingers and toes and yes I do enjoy fireworks. Maybe its a maturity thing or perhaps common sense? I don’t need the govt to do, well anything for me. You can’t fix stupid!

“I agree with skowheganresident; ALL these people that are shooting off fireworks all the time seem to have plenty of money for beer and Fireworks, but they can’t buy fuel or pay for their own heat, electricity,or food.
I have a neighbor that cried that his power was going to be shut off, so someone gave him some extra work, paid him and then the guy went and bought more beer and FIREWORKS, and to top it off he waits until dark and then starts shooting off these loud noisemakers”

When someone gets hurt with a nail gun, ATV, Snowmobile, vehicle, hang glider, weapons or million other activities it does not keep you, me -or anyone else from a decent nights sleep dies it?
I have to ask this? How do you test a firework?
In China -on 2 dollar a day factory workers who are pretty much expendable. Everyone in Maine is crying about losing their jobs to the Chinese. What are some folks buying? Fireworks mostly made in China.
