BROWNVILLE, Maine — A local woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after attempting to hire a person to murder her husband, police said.
Wendy Farley, 46, of Brownville was arrested and charged with criminal solicitation for murder, a Class A felony, at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, said Brownville Police Chief Nick Clukey.
“Last week [Sept. 11] we received some information from a source who said he had been solicited by a woman in Brownville to murder her husband. He was offered cash money,” said Clukey, who declined to say how much money the source was offered.
Clukey said Brownville and Milo police set up an operation to record conversations between the source and Farley on Tuesday.
“Based on the operation we were conducting and the information we received off the radio, we arrested her at her residence on the Russell Road in Brownville,” said Clukey.
Clukey said Farley and her husband had been married for about 30 years and have 13 children together, adult and young.
“We’ve conducted an interview of her after the arrest. There’s been no denial [or admittance] of the charges,” said Clukey.
Farley was taken to the Piscataquis County Jail in Dover-Foxcroft, where she remained Tuesday evening. Bail was set at $75,000.
This charge was a first in the area, said Clukey.
“This is definitely the first time this department has dealt with this kind of a crime,” he said.
Hmmmm … 46 years of age, married 30 years, 13 children … so much math, so little time.

Maine’s statutory rape law is sex with anyone under the age of 16. Since she was 16 when they married, it’s legal. I just looked it up.
As long as youre not a school teacher with a student, physician with a patient etc 16 years is the legal age to consent to sexual activity in Maine and also the legal age to marry. Just don’t offer to by your wife a drink.

I feel sorry for the lady, raising 13 kids in 30 years is a lot of work. You kind of lose who you are when you are caring for others that long.. Sad actually.. Maybe now she will have time to rest.. Sounds weird but she will probably be happier in prison.
This story is actually very tragic. While many people think it’s funny that someone at the age of 46 married for 30 years, 13 children together, now she wants to have her husband killed. Obviously the poor woman has either been abused or has developed mental health issues. Hopefully she and her family get the help they need.
Oh yes, poor her. If it wasn’t for this guy coming to the cops after she tried to hire him, this husband may be dead right now. Murder is no solution for a terrible marriage, even an abusive one. There are many, many other options.

A capital offense is one for which one can receive the death penalty. Maine, unfortunately, has no such penalty.

The only thing obvious from this story is she started young, and this couple obviously does not know what birth control is.
If you need to convince yourself that she must have been abused or is mentally ill to try to have her husband murdered, then you can use that rationale, but I don’t see anything in this story that makes that “obvious” at all.
I actually know these people pretty well. And they are wonderful people. They are religious, live off the land, and had 13 kids because they wanted a big family. They took care of there kids very well and don’t live off welfare. They seemed like they had the perfect relationship. I’m sure they had their problems. But yes they did know what birth control is but she obviously doesn’t believe in using it. As I said they wanted a big family. She was a very nice woman. Respectful, very lady like, a good mother and wife, home schooled her children. They have their own business and do well for them selves. What she did was so wrong. She should have just left him if she wasn’t happy with him any more. Her husband is a pretty good guy. So before you people judge you should know the facts. Some thing is going on with her. She definitely needs to be punished. I am not siding with her at all Im actually siding with him! No, I’m a woman who is conservative, married young had many children and has never taken any state aid. I will vote for Mitt Romney in Nov. I actually know these people. and they have there own business and they do quite well for them selves. and as for their children they wanted them. she wanted a big family. As for the husband he is a very nice man. She was very nice as well. They we’re very religious, raised a big family, home schooled their children. She was very polite, acted very lady like very kind and would help out in any way she could so would her husband. That’s why I’m quite shocked to find out she had done this. It’s no excuse. Stating the couple had 13 children “together” has tickled the funny bone of many, rather than the seriousness of the actual crime, of which this lady is accused. But, it does make you wonder about the intensity of such propagation.
Getting married at 16, would mean a steady annual reproduction of children for 29 of the 30 years of marriage, with barely enough time to turn around between births.
That’s why I believe, that when the officer said the couple had 13 children “together,” perhaps he was obliquely referring to the fact that they shared additional children, that the father could have brought into the marriage?

Mandatory sterilization, for both of them, after 4 kids. There’s too many people in the world and it’s only getting worse. Unless you’re super rich how can you possibly provide for 13 kids? If there were only 4 kids there would be more money to go around. I know some of these kids are grown but that’s not the point. The tax payers are probably subsidizing this and I don’t like my taxes spent on people who are irresponsible.

I’m sitting here scratching my head trying to figure out how they could possibly raise 13 children! Based on the average per capita income for the area, and the annual cost of raising a child, it would seem almost impossible to do so without some type of financial assistance.
