WARREN, Maine — A 31-year-old Eliot man is behind bars in Knox County after being arrested on charges that he broke into his former girlfriend’s home, sexually assaulted her and tried to kill her.
Paul Olsen was arrested Wednesday morning at a relative’s residence in Warren by Knox County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Kirk Guerrette.
Olsen was arrested on charges of attempted murder, gross sexual assault, burglary, reckless conduct and domestic violence assault, according to the sheriff’s office. He was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland.
Eliot Police Chief Theodor Short said that local officers went at 6 a.m. Wednesday to a residence on Goodwin Road in Eliot where a woman reported that her former boyfriend had broken into the house at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. She told police that Olsen held her against her will and at one point was strangling her and then put a pillow over her face. During the evening, he sexually assaulted her before leaving the home at about 6 a.m.
Eliot police issued an alert soon after they arrived at the home, asking other departments to be on the lookout for Olsen and saying he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Olsen is being held without bail, according to the jail.

Spelling of Eliot, Maine = Eliot. Not Elliott, as in a male person’s name.
they did spell it with one L.
It will be nice, seriously, when the state legislature (Democrats and Republicans alike in the shared majority) and the state judiciary implement minimum bail of $30,000 and a minimum one year and one day sentence for each case of domestic violence criminal threatening, with the bail release condition being that upon death for any reason of the complainant the bail is not refunded and the charges are not dropped unless the charged party happened to be out-of-state at the time of the complainant’s death. Please note that $30,000 has been the bail amount in Maine for the property crime of burglary…whereby nobody’s life is threatened or “intended to be ended”. The vast majority of elected political leaders and appointed administrators just are not intelligent or motivated enough to get it…Democrat and Republican.
