PATTEN – Walter W. Phillips died Sept. 20, 2012, at Houlton Regional Hospital after a period of ill health. He was born April 2, 1920, in New York City.
He served in the Army during World War II with the 879th Field Artillery Battalion 69th Infantry Division. Without their valiant efforts our lives would not have been what they are today. We thank those brave men and women who faithfully served our wonderful country.
Walter was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor J. Phillips. They were married for 67 years, and lived in New Jersey, Florida and finally Patten. Walter is survived by his son, Kenneth and wife, Rebecca, of Patten; one daughter, Nancy and husband, Brad Schultheiss, of Science Hill, Ky.; and eight grandchildren, Tara, Jennifer, Brian, Gabriel, Israel, Melissa, Michael and Keith. They also have nine great-grandchildren, Sean, Caleb, Gavin, Gage, Paige, Jayden, Graycon, Samantha and Tyler. Walter is also survived by his sister, Sophie Cedzedlo of Washington state; nieces and nephews. Walter and Eleanor were predeceased by their daughter, Diane and husband, Warren Heber, of New Jersey. The family is rejoicing that Walter turned his life over to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ about a month before he passed on, so he is redeemed by the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world and has gone on to glory for eternity. The family thanks Pat Morrarty for her tireless efforts to help both Walter and Eleanor these past two years of their lives.
