ELIOT, Maine — Eliot police confirmed a man charged with rape and attempted murder of his former girlfriend is being held on $100,000 cash bail following an arraignment earlier this week.
Paul Olsen, 31, was charged with attempted murder, burglary, gross sexual assault, and reckless conduct in connection to an act of reported rape and strangulation of a woman at her residence in Eliot this past week.
If Olsen makes bail, he faces numerous conditions of release including no contact with the victim or her children, no use or possession of drugs or alcohol or weapons, and he must submit to periodic searches of his person, vehicle and residence for alcohol, drugs and weapons.
Olsen was reportedly found with relatives in Warren, Maine, at the time of his arrest, by the Knox County Sheriff’s Department at approximately 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. According to police, Olsen reportedly broke into his former girlfriend’s home at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night. The victim appeared to be kept against her will until Olsen left the residence at around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday morning. She immediately called police following the incident.
Olsen allegedly raped, strangled, and physically assaulted the woman at her residence, where she lives with her two young children. The woman was transported by police to York Hospital where she is currently being treated. The children, who were not injured while Olsen was at the residence, have since been relocated to a safe location.
On April 12, 2010, Olsen was charged in Eliot with domestic violence assault involving the same victim. On April 21, he was charged with violating a restraining order. That restraining order had recently expired.

His bail is only $100,000.00, why not make it $500,000.00.
He should never be released on bail. He will attack her again, or God forbid, kill her.
Unlike so many times commenters here throw someone to the dogs prematurely, this is a clear case of no bail! He will kill her or harm or again ..we do not need another Amy lake case like dexter had. This man is a danger to her…I hope for her sake she can find eagerly and peace of mind
This animal has proven that he should not be part of the human race, as he just doesn’t get it!
This lady should have been trained in self defense, and been armed, way before now, and maybe we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
You can see how well the protective orders really work. He held her captive, all night, worked his evil upon her, and it took the cops several hours to find him afterwards.
This woman could easily have been killed, and the cops could not have stopped it.
In the end, WE are responsible for OUR OWN safety, no question about it.
Savages like this man need to be put out of business, permanently, so they can no longer prey on innocents.
These animals stalk our state, and the ones to blame are the judges who love them.
This lady should have had a gun and shot that b@#tard in the knees. Or get one big pitbull to tear the sucker apart.
As an owner of a very SWEET pitbull mix, they are a living thing, not a weapon. If, however, there was a reason for a pet to protect it’s owner any dog will do. My 80 lb. husky would have been quicker to respond to an attack by a known perp than my bully. Just saying….and there lies part of the bad rep problem.
he may not have the 100k. that is why it was set that high probably
Look at his face, like why am I here.He thinks he has done nothing wrong,he should never be released again, life in prison.
