BATH, Maine — A home-health nurse from Phippsburg has been arrested and charged with two felonies in connection with the theft of jewelry from a client’s home, according to the Bath Police Department.
Stephanie A. Walker was arrested Tuesday on a warrant at the Bath Police Station. Walker is charged with Class C theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and Class C receiving stolen property, both felonies.
In July of this year, Bath police received a complaint from a Bath resident that thousands of dollars of jewelry had been taken from the residence over a period of time during which a family member in the home was receiving home nursing care from a company that employed Walker.
Bath Detective Sgt. Robert Savary determined that some of the stolen jewelry was sold by Walker to a local gold and silver exchange company, according to a press release.
After her arrest, Walker was released on unsecured bail with conditions of release that include no contact with the alleged victim. She is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court at 1 p.m. Dec. 11. Each felony charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

What a lowlife. Stephanie, you are truly a POS.
I agree!!
Helicopters
After her arrest, Walker was released on unsecured bail with conditions of release that include no contact with the alleged victim. And, this is a deterrent somehow…. No, this is criminal theft! The justice system has become a bad joke….shame shame shame!
Ooops, I get it, mitigating circumstances, she had bills she could not afford, troubles, a little drug problem, a late house payment, a late car payment, a child with an addiction problem, etc….. So many excuses these days for bad behavior….just sayin’
She’s the victim here. It’s not her fault the client had thousands of dollars in jewelry laying around tempting her to steal. Plus all her other circumstances. (sarcasm intended)
Not necessarily, granted she is charged with a crime, and
the matter is awaiting trial. Charged does not mean guilty or not, and if she
is not a risk (or minimal) she has right to bail. It does not benefit society
in many instances to have those charged sitting in jails until trial. There
will be plenty of sucking in many cases with court costs, attorney fees, and
appeals when and if they are found guilty, storage of them, and / or probation
costs as applicable. This part of the justice system creates job security
in part for police, bonds people, bounty hunters, etc. hunting for the few that
jump bail. This system has been in need of an overhaul for some time. I
believe the sentencing is sorely lacking in many instances that deserve
severity, for instance crimes involving or against children.
you should probably wait until the trial and sentencing before criticizing the justice system…
No disrespect, but you can say anything you want as long as you end with “just sayin'”. Of course that’s just my opinion and I was only joking.
Or as they say down south ” Bless their little heart ” …..
What a horribly unethical and immoral thing to do from someone who is representing an honorable profession…..you do the crime you deserve the time…..
Now even people with jobs are stealing. Unreal.
…
That’s an insignificant comment. Wages have nothing to do with it-morality does.
…
Is she an R.N. or a C.N.A
…
I was wondering that also. An R.N. makes at least twice what a C.N.A. does. (I have relatives who work in both capacities) But it is possible that she is an R.N. but simply, because of the economy and lack of jobs, choose to accept a position normally assigned to a C.N.A. But regardless of all that, stealing from a client/patient is pretty darn low.
Not an excuse at all,but the average home health care nurse{pss or pca}makes about $8.60 an hour, while the ruthless agencies collect 18 to 27 dollars an hour for their services. And NO,that does NOT make it ok. Te Maine A.G should look into this wage breakdown, its disgusting.
As a Nursing Supervisor I find this appalling
stealing from the elderly what class probly has some sob story as to why she did it hope she gets the time she deserves but i doubt it slap on the wrist and that will be that
IF… she is guilty, her punishment should be, to shovel Pig S— on a pig farm owned by the State of Maine, for 2 years!!! ………..only a very inhumane person, would steal from the elderly person in their own home!!
i think those are my glasssssses,i can”t seeeee. pleeese brinG bAck.
As a home health nurse myself, I find this whole thing disgusting and apalling and can’t imagine what ever possess a person to do such a horrible thing.
You can’t imagine what ever would possess a person to do such a horrible thing? Try greed and absolutely NO conscience for starters.
This is sad. I guess the sold jewelry is beyond being recovered if it was melted down for its gold content. I hope people don’t trust others who come into their homes to do any kind of work. You just don’t know whose fingers are slippery.
You stay classy Stephanie A. Walker.
Slunk meat!!!!!!!!!!!!
How cruel. She not only stole items of monetary value, she has stolen the trust of current patients & future patients who let these strangers into their homes for care not by choice but because they need them. Bag!!!!
I hope the State Board of Nursing revokes her license…that would be far worse than any sentence.
…
Health aides seem to have a high rate of getting in trouble with the law, but i have gone on dates with health aides before and they are always a good time ;)
CNA’s get paid next to nothing, the job absolutely sucks, and their employers, many times, do not utilize an adequate screening processes in their hiring practices.
None of the above is a reasonable excuse for the sort of criminal conduct alleged in this story.
However, playing the devils advocate; how many of you, would be willing to, for example; wipe another adults behind, wash their bodies, clean up fluids, change adult diapers, deal with abusive clients, deal with demanding employers……for an average yearly salary of $25,000.00?
I wouldn’t!
You got that right – tough job, low wages, stuff just sitting there looking like an easy solution to your problems (you know she can’t take it with her) – and now, guess what? The solution became your new problem!
I’m hoping that honest CNA’s get their just reward, and hoping it is in addition to, and before, reaching heaven. they are angels on earth.
I did for over 10 years and loved every one of the people I took care of, they had the best story’s and joke’s ever! can’t stand people who work for the love of money!
Thank you “Rhonda Bragg” for your dedication in a noble profession!! The work may not be ” sweet smelling”; however the rewards are!!! It”s not always about the money!!! as you so stated!!
Eating and paying my bills is one of those habits that have been hard for me to shake, sorry.
Then you shouldn’t take that type of job if you aren’t happy with the wages paid. It takes the right type of person to be a CNA. If you truly want to be in this type of profession, it is more about being with the elderly and not so much about what the job entails. There is no excuse for this behavior no matter how much you make.
There are thieves all over the place…some kids even steal money from their parents. As for jewelry, anyone who has expensive jewelry should keep it in a steel safe and screw it into two studs so it can’t be moved. We do!
I have a feeling she is NOT a nurse- a nurse is registered. No offense to CNAs but rather than a nurse I think that is what she must be,
…
Your feeling is wrong! She’s a nurse. Check it out on the Maine Nurse registry.
Yes, I had to look, too. She was a LPN first, then a RN.
Dear Stephanie. If you are found guilty for this alleged crime, have you given any thought as to what you will do for a career? Most likely you won’t be able to handle money and that rules out operating the cash register at McDonald’s. Smokey’s Greater Shows might have something to offer you next summer.
The redistribution of wealth is on the rise.. I hope she doesn’t get a liberal who believes in sharing the wealth.
That is plain ignorant. First learn to spell, second, turn off Rush and Shawn Hannity and try to formulate your own original thought. Redistribution of wealth!
Thanks for the spell check. Sometimes the truth sounds ignorant. Hey I do not listen to any of them guys. sorry wvom is not on my radio. I just heard Obama speak of it many times, thats all. I listen to the Pulse where the people don’t hold back their true feelings.
Karl Rove handlers are out loose, lock your doors.
This comment is not appropriate to the subject being discussed, these brown shirt people never stop making such comments. Just need to take medication as prescribed.
Utilizing your logic, neither is your comment.
This is not the first time that someone working in the home of the elderly has been accused of stealing and it won’t be the last. People need to be very careful who they let into their home. I do not know if she is guilty, but someone is.
This lady I know had a health care provider take out credit cards in her name. spent 10’s of thousands of dollars and walked away scot free.
…
I am so sorry for your friend, there are good caring people out there that do that job. wish you well
I myself had a situation like this , I had a care giver come in she was very nice I thought, I was going through my Moms things ( she died a few years back) and checking her jewelry and notice a lot was missing . I had reported to the State Police , we just didn’t have a clue who took it . a week later some coins were missing and we put two and two together and found the Home care person took it . she was put in jail I heard, but I never got anything back.
I made the mistake not having insurance on all my personnel property of value. I believe the agency the lady worked for now checks out whom they hire now.
Being disabled we trust people in the programs to be honest, one just never knows.
They should do a background check like any other company or even the state. I didn’t think they could be licensed as nurses without a background check but I might be wrong and I don’t believe CNA’s are licensed.
If these agencies don’t have their employees bonded, they should. That might take care of the financial loss, I believe…but it still wouldn’t bring back cherished family heirlooms.
…
What a dirtbag in my opinion, your suppose to feel safe in your home and not have to worry about someone stealing from you or hurting you. What is this world coming too? We can’t trust anyone any more it makes me sad.
…
Wow..you people need to get a life. I mean really. She was arrested, not convicted. What does it matter if she were a CNA, LPN, RN, or Doctor? I hope none of you are on her jury list, or else she doesn’t have a prayer. Do you think that police make mistakes? Do you think maybe she didn’t do it? If she did, have you ever screwed up and made a mistake. I know I have. Thank god the people in my life have given me a 2nd chance….
…
…
You know what, you are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. You missed the entire point of innocent until proven guilty. Thank god you are not running for president as it seems you blindly believe everything you read.
Maybe made mistakes, but that is far different from knowingly stealing from the person you are supposed to be taking care of. If she is guilty of this crime, she deserves to lose her license and therefore forfeit her nursing career.
This is just awful and shes from Phippsburg shame shame on her
Disgrace to nurses everywhere. You trust-and PAY-someone to come into your home with the intent to given medical care, and this is what they do to you. I hope she loses her licence.
putting her picture out there is like saying she’s already guilty.
If she did steal from her patients she should be ashamed of herself. Some people have no morals.
What a POS SCUMBAG!!!!! I hope she gets the max but she won’t get anything ever close to that.
My family has dealt with this dilemma even after preparing in advance for little risk of such an event. A diamond ring, hidden in a safe place, a beloved family heirloom at that. Locked away, but in the house. A shifty in-law proceeded to “find” it. When discovered, we went across the street and confronted and demanded her to produce it. She did, and was completely bewildered at being “caught”. We still have the diamond after many years of decendancy.
Wonder if the earrings she is wearing in the photo are actually her own??
