WATERVILLE, Maine — A Pennsylvania man was arrested early Thursday morning after police found him intoxicated after a traffic stop.

Sean Griffin, 18, was entering the parking lot of Champion’s nightclub around midnight when officers on foot patrol noticed he didn’t have his headlights on, Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.

When officers went to investigate, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from Griffin’s vehicle and started to question him.

Griffin originally failed to provide his name to police, Rumsey said, and subsequently failed field sobriety tests.

Police placed Griffin under arrest and charged him with operating under the influence of intoxicants, operating without a license and failure to provide a correct identity to officers, Rumsey said.

Griffin was unable to post $1,000 bail, so he was taken to the Kennebec County Jail, where he remained Thursday.
