OLD TOWN – Dr. Peter John Climo, 51, died unexpectedly Sept. 5, 2012, at his home. Born Nov. 3, 1960, in Springfield, Mass., he was the son of Shirley Butler Climo and James Climo.
Peter was a graduate of Longmeadow High School, the University of Maine, Orono, and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. Peter moved to Maine in 1979 to attend college, and fell in love with Maine and the outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman, gardener and talented cook. He will be remembered fondly for his rich and lovely tenor singing voice, with which he delighted in praising God in church choirs throughout his life. He proudly served as the first president of the Bement Alumni Association, an effort to save Camp Bement, since 2009.
Peter is survived by his three children, Matthew Buzzell-Climo of Portland, Allison Climo of Chatham, N.H., and Christopher Climo of Portland; his mother, Shirley Butler Climo of Westfield, Mass.; brothers, James Climo of Marshall, N.C., and David Climo of Feeding Hills, Mass.; a sister, Judith MacMunn of Westfield, Mass.; two nieces, Christina Climo and Emily Climo; and a nephew, Samuel MacMunn. He also leaves beloved companions, Dudley and Bodie.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Christ Church Cathedral Episcopal Church, 35 Chestnut St., Springfield, Mass. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Bement Alumni Association, P.O. Box 706, Charlton, MA 01057 or at www.savebement.org.
