ARUNDEL, Maine — An agitated Portland man kicked a sheriff’s deputy who was trying to arrest him after a convenience store theft early Wednesday, police said.

Tim Nash, 23, left a Big Apple store in Arundel without paying for $13.50 worth of food around 4 a.m., according to York County Maj. William King.

When deputies arrived, they saw Nash walking behind the store, King said. He was quickly discovered in a wooded area behind the store and taken into custody.

Nash didn’t go quietly, however, kicking a deputy in the chest while being place in a cruiser, King said.

Nash was booked into the York County Jail and charged with assault and theft. He remained behind bars Wednesday afternoon.
